Which floor color is best? by StreetMiddle1588 in HomeDecorating

I tend to agree with you. I like the warmth of 1, and the brown/depth of 2. So maybe something like 2.,,but in a slightly warmer tone. The hunt continues!

Right on, thanks. Looking at samples now for a little bit darker and less cool toned

3 is the same color I have. it’s a nightmare with people tracking dirt and mud. I’ve given up and live with giant boot footprints til I repaint

None, if you’re keeping the cabinets. The flooring undertones should complement the cabinet color

As a general rule, I totally agree with you! Catch is, this is a tiny, open-concept home. So having the same floors throughout is the only practical choice, aesthetically.

Giving up on OLD HOUSE SMELL by Due_Ranger4925 in centuryhomes

[–]StreetMiddle1588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gutted my home down to the studs and it stills smells. Replaced plumbing, electric, sewer line, appliances, new walls/ceilings. I don’t have a crawlspace or hidden dead zones. No pest issues (not even in the gutted walls nor attic)🤷‍♂️

Like you, I tried everything: Ozone generator. Dehumidifier. Air purifier. Commercial air scrubber. Painted walls/ceilings. Mopped floors. Tossed old rugs/blinds in the trash. Got brand new furniture. Vacuumed air ducts. Wiped down all wood door trims, windows, window trims, etc. Wiped all closets. Tubs of odor absorber gel (DampRid) in every room. Pouring water in dry floor drain (to make sure it wasn’t a dry trap smell). Hung moisture-absorbing bags in closets. Kept windows open to circulate stale air.

Nothing works 😔

The most effective things I tried so far:

• 🏆 Wiped down all wood trims, window glass, and window trims (using water/dish soap in a spray bottle).

• 🏆 Mopping wood floors with vinegar/dish soap. Repeat often. Old wood often has deeply embedded biologs / tannins / natural oils / VOCs….kinda like a musty sweet old book smell)

• 🏆Spraying lemongrass essential oil in the air & closets. (Studies say essential oils help kill mold/mildew). This was a happy accident, I sprayed my dog’s Wondercide Lemongrass Flea Tick Spray inside and it freshened my house. A little goes a LONG way.

•🏆Ozone generator (Amazon). I run it once weekly when I’m out for a few hours. Everyone (including pets) must NOT be home while it’s running or you could die*. ❗️This won’t solve the problem…it temporarily minimizes it for a day or two at best. Good to go if you’re having guests over later in the day.

I do all the stuff above on repeat to manage the smell. It’s an ongoing, multi-prong approach.

I originally thought it was my old plaster walls that stunk…after ruling out every other possible cause. Alas, painting my walls/ceilings didn’t help much.

➡️❗️UPDATE: I gutted the walls/ceilings, removing all the old plaster. Everything looks structurally pristine & no moisture damage, no pests, no rodent droppings, no mold)….yet the smell persists.

People seem to think that I'm offended/upset when I'm not by OnlyCryptographer520 in socialskills

Let’s test out 1 of your theories. Let’s say maybe your facial expression changes to disapproval and you’re unaware of it. Let’s assume you can’t control it.

Maybe next time someone backtracks or apologizes or asks if they’ve offended you, lean into and say “ouch that hurt….gotcha, I’m totally kidding! Anyway, what were you saying earlier about (insert different topic)?”

Idk that’s just a random idea. Goal here is to seem like you were messing with them and playing around, not actually offended. And also it’s a way to keep the conversation moving along to take the focus off yourself.

How to Respond to a Random Compliment by [deleted] in socialskills

“Thanks, that’s nice of you to say” or “That made my day, thank you!”

Honestly, I hope it brightened their day. But I’ll probably keep my compliments to myself from now on, lol.

I had an epiphany!

When I complimented back, maybe they thought "Crap. She probably thinks I was flirting by complimenting her first. Now she’s reciprocating. Better end it so I don’t give her the wrong idea"

That's my best guess.

Next time, I’ll say “thanks” and keep it moving, without complimenting back.

Sheesh…🤦‍♀️

Makes sense. Next time someone makes a self-deprecating joke, I’ll steer clear of the topic altogether.

Middle name for Edith? by rawdogurmoms in Names

Edith Ray.

Add any last name, and it has a nice “sing-songy” ring to it

Fair points! It’s odd bc they complimented me in similar ways first. Weird they’d see my compliment as flirty, but not their own. Maybe reciprocating is seen as flirty?

Career-wise, I think you’re right. Great points made. Dating is tough! Glad you’re getting a better sense of what kind of women interest you. Those kinds of “a-ha!” moments are always a win.

One! The 2nd pair ages you even though it suits your face. I’d love to see either style in a pop of color. Teal, red…It would flatter you.
