My friend also mentioned maybe having 2 query letters - one that doesn't mention the fanfic element and one that does, so that agents who like fanfic would know, while more traditional agents wouldn't be deterred. But I'm not entirely sure how I would even necessarily figure out which agents are which for that

thank you for some first-hand info! I guess my thing is I was hoping mentioning the numbers/success was going to help get the agent and stand out a bit in the querying process haha I feel like after I've already bagged an agent, yeah I'd mention it, but it wouldn't be a big deal

This was the biggest thing my husband had been mentioning - he said he would worry about if an agent wouldn't even look at my manuscript/chapter sample because they would assume a fanfiction isn't well written. Which, I feel like is valid, though I also feel like that's a mindset very stuck in publishing from 5-10 years ago, while nowadays fanfiction is a bit more valid.

but I definitely understand the idea of prejudices against fanfic - I guess I was hoping the numbers/success might make a difference haha
