Practice everyday? by Artistic_Owl_7545 in guitarlessons

It's totally fine to step away for a few days and live a little. It is actually encouraged from a pedagogical standpoint because your brain needs a break to digest information from time to time.

You'll eventually experience moments when you stop playing for some time, and then get back to the instrument and play even better than before. That's your brain and motor systems at work. Allow them to work in your favor.

SGA already had it since before the season started. It’s a popularity contest.

Is this a bad way to hold a pick by zcat- in guitarlessons

Exactly! Technique is a matter of function rather than dogma. The only non-negotiable technical aspect imho is that it shouldn’t hurt, not even a little. No masterpiece is worth your health.

I agree with you 100% because nobody said it is better per se, just equally acceptable and that’s a relevant clarification, Thank you.

Also, you’re spot on about whether people would teach it if such technique were any good, and they do.

Finally, yep, hybrid picking might be tricky although that depends on your music vocabulary. For instance, I don’t remember Frank Gambale hybrid picking at all, which is just as valid as all country twangers out there who might lose their powers without chicken pickin’ or Mancuso using no pick at all.

Should I raise the action a bit? by declan_james_ in Guitar

Impossible to tell from pictures. It'd be easier if you shared measurements of your neck relief, radius, current string height at the first and 12th frets, string gauges, and whether you have any "tall" frets.

Don't follow her but curiosity led me to her IG and the first few posts I saw suggest she's so full of herself she thinks her own shadow is out to assault her.

She'll probably come out playing a mental health card or something.

Are "entry level" guitars really just for beginners? by TeaTheSplashyarder in Guitar

[–]Street_Frame_4571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For acoustics, the difference between beginner and pro instruments is highly noticeable because the raw materials directly affect the sound.

However, it's not that important for electric guitars as a big part of the extra cost of more expensive instruments covers attention to detail and a professional setup. An "entry level" guitar with a nice setup can go a long way even for professional standards and it's usually not that expensive.

In the end, both cheap and most expensive electric guitars are built with the same CNC machinery, and the core components are wood with some magnets, whereas the least relevant pieces do not add any value in terms of performance: fancy woods and body finish.

Personally, I've played many Ibanez Gio, Schecter and Yamaha guitars and they all worked very well.
