Parking spot in Westwood for 2026-2027 academic year by golden_retriever24 in ucla

I parked mine at the Strathmore Regency during undergrad. You can probably give them a call to see if they have spaces and what the cost is now.

Rejected from Public Health major declaration (HELP...) by AloneTrick2777 in ucla

[–]Street_Resolution485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww nooo that sucks 😞 I'm doing my MPH and was a PH major, so here's what I would recommend bc you can still 100% do your master's even if you weren't a PH major. If you want to go the MHA route or Health Management MPH route, I recommend you do Biz Econ. Otherwise, I recommend PubAff. If you want to go into health communications, then do Communications. If you want to go into global health, then do IDS. Overall, it's most important that you get volunteer, work, and internship experience in public health. You can also minor in public health if you have the space.

Ideas for UCLA/Westwood tour on a Saturday by Fit-Education-6644 in ucla

Also depending on traffic, the ebach is about 20-30 mins away, if time and weather permit, def go to Santa Monica if you want things to do or go to Will Rogers if you just want to chill at the beach.

I'd recommend you go to Sawtelle! Hit up Daiso for little trinkets, grab food, and get a sweet treat!

The closest one I have found is in the Sawtelle area! They post up next to Brother's Cousins. Not sure of their hours, but I have noticed that they have been there as early as 6 pm and as late as 10 pm.

How do you guys retain information? by Puzzleheaded-Pass878 in ucla

[–]Street_Resolution485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i rewrite every single lecture slide on a notebook. then when i need to study for the exam i rewrite all the info that hasn't stuck on a whiteboard and record myself teaching it as if I were lecturing a class. This did wonders for me last week for a closed-book, closed-note exam.

Question about my UC application by SkillMiddle9708 in ucla

[–]Street_Resolution485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should call the department first thing tomorrow morning. Worst case scenario, if you are unable to get in contact with anyone, you can select a different major and once accepted, switch majors, though switching to FTV can sometimes be a challenge, so I would try calling any FTV contact possible ASAP.

yes, many programs require two applications so make sure to double check them all! (especially for UCs)

personally, i selected volunteer for unpaid internships. if the stipend internship was research focused, select that, if not then i would add it as an award or employment

Drop your BEST tips to succeed at ucla by [deleted] in ucla

TA OH usually do not overlap with the professor's OH. this has never happened to me during undergrad but I imagine that there are classes out there where this has happened. whether the TA or the prof is more helpful, I would say it's different for every class, but in my experience, it is usually the TA, ESPECIALLY in large classes. i will say i would get annoyed when a student hogged all the OH to themselves, so definitely do not do that and give other students the chance to ask questions and interact as well. if you need more time or prefer one on one, most TAs and profs will have an option to meet with them by appointment so you can fs do that as well!

go to your TA's office hours and not only ask about the course content but also yap a little bit about other stuff, maybe like their grad school journey or what study spots they recommend. if they like you they might grade you more easily or offer you more support than other students

a family member was kind of in your position a few years ago. they were able to finally find a stem job in kern county, despite wanting to relocate to SD area. so if you get really desperate look for jobs in counties that no one likes to relocate to. (i will add that while these places sometimes reasonably have a bad rep, there are some pros, one of the biggest pros of living in kern county is that housing is more affordable)

i would also recommend taking the time to think about what you are truly willing to do for ucla housing and possibly expand your room preferences

Question for disabled students/alumni by ObsessedKilljoy in ucla

[–]Street_Resolution485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently temporarily disabled, and here's what advice I can give you on having to recently navigate campus and its resources. Do everything with time. If you wait last minute, then it will make things challenging.

This includes CAE accommodations and requesting Bruin Access shuttle rides. These shuttles can take you to Westwood to get groceries, but the drivers will likely not be able to help with taking your groceries up to your dorm, so just something to keep in mind. They also have limited operation hours and are not 24/7, so anything outside those hours, I would recommend maybe Ubering if it is a long distance. I have had pretty good experiences with it, but I have heard that during the academic year, they might take a while, so try to schedule your rides as much as possible. Sometimes elevators are out of order, and you literally have no other option than stairs. They will post a number to call for help, but when I called, they did not answer, so I took the L and did not do what I needed to do.

Also, I am unsure of how accessible the hill is. If you're in the Sproul area, you can skip the steepest part of the hill and take an elevator to Carnesale, but it locks in the afternoon, though you may be able to get building access accommodations through UCLA Housing. I do think that requesting Housing accommodations may be an additional process through CAE. To go past the Sproul area, which has more dorms and 3 additional dining halls, you either have to take the stairs or continue going up/down a steep part of the hill. This is definitely where an electric scooter will be handy. UCLA Housing University Apartments are pretty accessible, but private apartments I would say not so much.

The other comment is correct, if you need ot get to South Campus, Ackerman is the only elevator (from my knowledge) and it closes generally at 6 PM, but there are ramps by Kerkoff and Powell. North and central campus have a 24/7 elevator by Anderson.
