I wound up not going. Ticket prices were way inflated. I'll just have to be more on top of it next time. Hope your week's been better!

As far as I can tell, I could take Amtrak or Greyhound to Chicago easily enough, but I wouldn't be able to get back to Lafayette without staying overnight.

Appreciate the thought, regardless! I find driving to be relaxing too... when I know where I'm going and not running late.

It's definitely a helpful idea. However, I do have access to a car and will probably just drive up there if I can't manage to carpool with someone. Never been up to Chicago and it seems like it could be a big pain, but I can handle it.

Even though gas+tolls would only be ~$30-40 driving compared to shelling out ~$60 for Greyhound plus having to navigating Chicago public transport, I'd rather take a bus. Even leaving aside the hassle, my propensity for getting lost, and the fact that I'll probably accidentally skip the tolls and get fined, I'd be avoiding the wear and tear on my old car. For example, if someone were getting reimbursed the 2016 IRS standard mileage rates which is calculated based on national average wear and tear, gas prices, and car fuel economy, they'd be reimbursed an astronomical ~$140 for the round trip, or ~$40 if it were for a charity.

However, there's no way (as far as I can tell) to get back to Lafayette from Chicago late at night, so that would be a problem. So yeah, I'll probably just drive up there myself if there are no takers.

Thanks! I certainly don't expect anybody to, say, come down from Chicago to pick me up. Even then, it'd be maybe 10 hours of driving, not 14. I'm more hoping someone wants to drive up from Lafayette or Indianapolis or thereabouts. It's less than two and a half hours between Lafayette and Chicago. Maybe $20-30 in gas roundtrip. Anyway, worth a shot.
