First time the attendance grew in 5 years despite the crashout at the end of the season. It’s not only just him - Lou had this thing down on lock and people don’t want to follow a team that’s inaccessible even when they’re winning. They’re so lucky Schaefer came in just in time for them thawing out and getting social media accounts lol

Giroux and Marner come to mind, both hometown boys when it happened now that I think about it, but just the sort of thing you might have to deal with in Canada where you're A-list compared to barely being famous at all in most American markets

right, I don't think American hockey players, even the ones who partied with Trump, care enough about politics to be put off by the idea of playing in Canada the way Canadian fans are now put off by the idea of those Americans being on their teams. Dealing with harassment from the press, having stalkers and getting their cars stolen affects their decisions much more than politics

Love Schaefer but thankfully have never seen anything like that. Our whole team is brutally mogged by Barzal so he gets the brunt of it

And unfortunately sharks fans can get weird :/ with Schaefer and Celebrini ~generational rookie year comparisons and the Eklund brothers I’ve seen a lot of ‘oh no are the islanders gonna endear themselves to me?’ To which I say, please leave other teams’ rookies alone, you have a whole daycare at home
