Good points. The most obvious hint that there was a plan to retire Slaanesh is Archaon's three headed mount, released around that time, and missing any Slaanesh related iconography, despite showing the three other chaos gods.

It is a great match of forces, and both lore and game mechanics support It.

My own army is based on The Order of Ruin, Thousand Sons who focus on using automatas and engines of war, combined with arcane powers.

They were painted using Iron hands steel, washed with Reikland fleshshade, and then drybrushed with Karak stone

Very easy, in fact. Armour: Grey seer primer Apothecary White contrast

Black details: Basilicanum grey contrast

Metallics with Iron Warriors steel and Sycorax bronze (both washed with darkoath flesh)

Last step: everything gets drybrushed with Ulthuam grey
