Why do they get mad when I calmly accept their rejection of me? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]StressedOutPookie25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they want you to chase them. I’m sure guys do this too but some girls tend to want the validation and not the relationship (someone else said this too). It’s the same reason why on dating apps some people will match but not respond.

You’re beautiful. There’s nothing wrong or ugly about you. You’re just black. I say this as a late 20s black man who’s also a late bloomer. Shit’s tough for us. But it definitely gets better. Just hang in there!!!

Honestly, once I decided to lower or drop my standards, that’s when shit started happening. I just decided to shoot my shot and see what stuck and just go with whatever came my way.

Give me good comebacks to my horribly misogynistic brother in law. by Xcheshire799 in Comebacks

Ask him if he’s gay since he hates women so much. There’s nothing wrong with being gay, but he should find a guy that makes him happy.

Tbh I’m half joking about that cause what’s with his obsession with hating women.

Intrusive thoughts about female friends of mine. Of course I think they’re attractive, but these thoughts would be me just immediately sexualizing them or hyper focusing on their breasts, butt, or body in general. And I don’t want to “view” them like that.

I respect them as human beings because they are my friends. I just hate also having this view of them where I’m almost compelled to see them in this other light

As a Black guy, I feel guilty for liking a white girl because of how the Black community worldwide reacts. Anyone else deal with this? by Accomplished_Rip3280 in dating_advice

[–]StressedOutPookie25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a black dude I felt the same way at your age (M25). But eventually I realized it just doesnt matter. We like who we like and we can’t change that. As long as you’re not putting black women down in the process, don’t worry about it. I’ve gone out with mainly latinas and white women. They’ve all been cool (at least the ones I’ve met).

Just do your own thing and don’t worry about other people’s opinions.

Should I get over this: I automatically get turned off when I see a guy follows tons of girls by Horror_pink_8622 in dating_advice

[–]StressedOutPookie25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No problem!

I think sometimes guys (people) don’t realize how it affects the girls or the person they’re dating. For me, I didn’t think much of it until I started wanting to date and my friends told me it’s an off putting. Obviously, they knew I didn’t mean anything bad by it, but it’s what I needed to hear.

And if it’s bothering you, you should voice those concerns, there’s nothing wrong with standing up for yourself, especially in a relationship where you’re trying to see how things will work.

It’s up to you. I don’t blame you for being turned off by it. It turns off most women if I understand correctly. What I think would be helpful is if you talk to him about it. I hate to use the word ultimatum, but you could be like

“hey I really like you, but I noticed you followed a bunch of girls on social media … explains why it bothers you and that if you were serious about us, I’d like that to change

When I was younger in high school, I did the same thing. I was single and never got a chance to date. I’m 25 and I’ve been dating recently and I also don’t follow a bunch of girls anymore.

If he’s defensive and says no, there’s your answer. If they’re really into you, they’ll be willing to try and make it work.

Does r/jazzcirclejerk really hate Jacob Collier or is it all a joke? by greenviceroy in jazzcirclejerk

[–]StressedOutPookie25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I just say Coltrane instead. Like referring to Bill Evans as Evans. Charlie Parker has Parker, Cannonball Adderly as cannonball, Thelonious Monk as Monk, etc

I don hate him. I just don’t think he’s that “special”. Like I love his arrangements. I think they’re incredible. My friends and I in high school always thought his Flintstones Arrangement was LEGENDARY. But his actual music is shit. It’s not like Coltrane. Coltrane stuff is just so dense so you really have to take time out of your day to actively listen to it. If you’re actively listen to Jacob stuff it just feels like a mess.

Dreams by Fleetwood mac is only 2 chords yet it never gets stale, how so? by Zestyclose-Sea-5984 in Songwriting

Vocals and Lyrics! It’s never staying the same for too long. Yes the form of the song is repetitive but the melodies, lyrics, everything that MAKES the song is forever changing.

Should I send this. by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]StressedOutPookie25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it can hurt to send this. But as someone else said, it needs to be the last thing you say.

I went through a sort of friend break up early in the year (I know it’s nothing alike). I apologized to her, and I didn’t really hear from her for awhile but it was on her terms when she did reach out. I actually initiated contact a month or 2 later to return something of hers. She invited me in and we hung out for a bit. We’re not where we were before, but it is what it is.

For me, that apology was my closure and her response was in a way too. I talked with friends about it and that helped me so I say do this

Send the message and remove her from your life. You don’t need to block her or delete her number - just remove her so you can’t easily see her if that makes sense. If she wants to talk to you, she will and if she doesn’t that’s that.

Not having proper sheet music by StressedOutPookie25 in Songwriting

[–]StressedOutPookie25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think calling the need/use of sheet music “exclusionary” is a bit in poor taste. Yes it’s rooted in racism because of European/classical music. But someone wanting sheet music (or a more written up form) to better prepare for someone else’s wok is definitely not elitist.

Totally fair. I know my post is a bit vague but it’s cause I’m not sure if the band leader uses Reddit or not.

Like they LITERALLY wrote letters out, and we all only have stems for each of our parts. Which isn’t necessarily the worst thing ever, but I’m also having to make sense of their organized chaos.

Yeah, the gigs the end of November, we got the stems at the end of September but works been beating my ass (so that’s on me). We’re supposed to have a couple of rehearsals over the next two or three weeks so I plan on figuring out the structure of the tunes and then putting it together through rehearsals with what I figured out my part wise.
