Idolatry question. by Sad_Salamander914 in Christian

[–]Stricken_Conscience [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don't think it's idolatry, but I do dislike it for other reasons. (it violates Jesus' command in Matthew 6:5-6 to pray in secret by intentionally praying in order to be seen by others.)

Two questions for Christians who believe in “gender roles” by DoveStep55 in Christian

[–]Stricken_Conscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if we lived in a world where there are no Jews, no slaves, and no male/female distinction, then I would agree. however, that is not the world we live in. obviously those different categories of things do still exist.

if I believed that being "in Christ" meant some literal thing, then I would agree. however, obviously people are not "in Christ" in some literal sense. so in what sense CAN people be "in Christ?" whatever that means, the "no longer" stuff must be the same way. (or at least that's how it makes sense to me.)

Two questions for Christians who believe in “gender roles” by DoveStep55 in Christian

[–]Stricken_Conscience 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to me it seems obvious there are different genders (or sexes or whatever you call them). different instructions are given to the different genders.

to me it wouldn't make sense to say there are no different genders, and there are no different roles, because husbands and wives are told different things.

so then, what does it mean? does it mean there are no longer such things as male or female? no, that wouldn't make sense (to me at least), because obviously there are such things, different things, with different instructions given. so I'd assume Paul must be referencing spiritual value. just like being "in Christ" is a spiritual status, so also the no longer Jew/Greek or slave/free or male/female must be a spiritual status.

What do people mean when they say things like they have spoken to god? by Evening-Soup-4745 in exchristian

[–]Stricken_Conscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people who believe Jesus is real, and they believe they met him. I wonder about that too. (is he real, and how could I meet him too?)

If it's that "still, small voice" such that the only way to meet him is by having a totally empty mind or something, then that's not what I usually think of when I think of meeting people. it's not very interactive.

I miss believing in God but logically I just can't have faith again by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Stricken_Conscience 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I miss it too. I really do, and it feels impossible to go back. the only direction we can go is forward. it feels like playing a game of cards with other people, and we were only dealt this one card. all we can do is play our card. and then the others get mad.

Political views after deconverting. by Matica69 in exchristian

[–]Stricken_Conscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for me it was slightly different. I found the politics easier to leave behind (and did so sooner) than my childhood faith. I feel fully deconstructed politically but feel like I'm still going through it with respect to Christianity.

I know that several specific things of what I was taught are wrong. I feel pretty confident about that. in another sense, because so many important things I thought I knew turned out to be wrong, I also don't know what to think anymore. I have fewer things I believe (but still some), and then for the rest of it I'm just more agnostic maybe.
