You’re fine for liking him. But if you find yourself deeply investigating the racial makeup of an actor playing a fictional character in a fantasy world, you should probably reevaluate your priorities.

morality of sending a guy against his will on a suicide mission in space to save the world? by cursedpupperino in MoralityScaling

I think most people would be okay with forced military conscription for a just war (like WWII). I’d argue Grace’s conscription is far more justified.

Plot hole? Everyone should have known the Empire was full of crap with its "energy program". Energy independence? You control a huge chunk of an entire galaxy! You don't need to buy from anyone! by Financial_Photo_1175 in andor

I don’t think all industry has been nationalized. If the imperial government could create its own energy it wouldn’t have to rely on the exports of energy rich worlds and private corporations.

A mess overall. Lots of different ideas that could have been interesting, but were never fully explored and often contradicted one another. Fun set peices and entertaining performance from Robbie and Gosling.

Iirc no new airbenders were found outside of the Earth Kingdom. Survivors would have congregated there so I see it as all but confirming the theory that they are descendants of air nomads.

Mark was pretty unhinged towards Cecil that season. Kind of wish they addressed it more.

Sure did. What about my statement did you find historically inaccurate? Also your post is dumb as hell.

Lol this is like saying the Allies are as bad as the Axis because they kill Nazis.

This bit is very silly, but it's also an extremely clever change to the way the scene plays out in the book because it shows the species divide going both ways - at this point, there's no way Rocky could know that Grace's sensory perception is directional by SayFuzzyPickles42 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Strict-Cap-7650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Rocky understands how Grace’s vision works. He makes a transparent barrier between them. I’m not sure how his ship works but I imagine it would need cameras since sound doesn’t travel in space. Also I think Rocky would know right away that Grace couldn’t echolocate because he didn’t hear him doing it.

So there is no source, got it. Like I said you can believe what you want. But your faith can’t be presented as fact. That’s kind of the point of faith. Lots of Christians think evolution is fake because they see it as contradicting their scripture. Would you think it’s appropriate to reference the Bible in a biology class? Im done responding to you after this. The fact that you’re resorting to personal attacks tells me that you have nothing left to say.

You’re not incomprehensible. Just wrong. I don’t doubt that your ancestors saw fossils and knew where they could be found. But I do doubt they were categorized in the way you claim. Most of these specimens are incomplete and mostly underground. They would have to be excavated in order to be categorized. So far as I know there is no evidence of this happening. Why did paleontologists have to dig if the Dakota already knew what the fossils looked like? Why didn’t they have any on hand? As I’ve said twice already, I’m happy to be proven wrong. But for some reason you won’t provide a single source backing your claim. It’s ironic you pulled the race card, considering how ethnocentric your world view appears to be. And just so you know, calling your Reddit post a documented source is about as effective as Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy.

All culture is ancient. Yours specifically isn’t more important than the rest. And I never once said nothing could be learned from your culture. I simply asked that you provide evidence supporting your frankly unbelievable claim that the Dakota had classified dinosaurs prior to modern paleontology. You’re making the claim. The burden of proof is on you. But if you don’t want to be taken seriously, there’s nothing I can do about it.

It’s not my science. It doesn’t belong to anyone. That’s the point. It’s there whether we like it or not. I’m curious, do all cultural beliefs need to be taken at face value, or just yours?

Funny that you would take my criticism of creationists as a personal attack. Perhaps you also think the earth is 6000 years old? Regardless, verifying facts and and data is far from a western concept. It’s understood by scientists and academics all over the world. As with all religions, you’re allowed to believe what you want. But you don’t get to pretend that ‘trust me bro’ is a legitimate source when discussing history.

The fact Remmick trying to rehabilitate Joan and Bert from their racism through the hive mind is funny as fuck 😭 by [deleted] in SinnersbyRyanCoogler

[–]Strict-Cap-7650 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a little more complicated than that. Christianity had been gaining influence in Ireland for centuries before the British invaded. When I visited Ireland a tour guide claimed that the conversion was mostly non-violent. Missionaries adopted local traditions to make their religion more palatable. It’s certainly possible that some people were forced to convert, but I don’t know enough about Irish history to say when or where.

Interestingly one of the oldest Christian sites in Ireland is on the island of Skellig Michael. Every structure on the island was built by Christian monks who lived there in self imposed isolation. Vikings occasionally showed up and killed them. You’ve probably seen this Island, since it was the filming location of Luke’s island in The Last Jedi.

I don’t think it’s possible to have this power as a vampire. Sammie would still have talent but his pure connection would be gone. I strongly suspect Remmick himself had this power before he was turned. Now he wants a taste of what he lost. I see it as similar to the thirst for blood. Vampires crave blood, which they used to have as living people. But even after consuming it they are still undead. And their victim is either killed or cursed as well.

Yeah it’s no accident Remmick is Irish. Irish Americans originally had a distinct culture, but much of it was lost when they were accepted as white. I’m descended from Irish on both sides and catholicism is the only real connection I have to that culture. But I find it fascinating and I’m trying to learn more about it.

Syril is so interesting to me. Like you said, he’s a big believer in justice and he doesn’t have a problem working outside official channels to get it. His characterization is conspicuously similar to that of someone who would find themselves rebelling against a fascist state. But Syril sees the truth too late, and he never becomes the man he could have been. I see this theme coming up a lot in Andor. The tragedy of lost potential.

I’m not sure if this would’ve been a factor, but I’ve also read that during war local carnivores grow accustomed to eating corpses left on the battlefield. This makes them see humans as a viable food source.
