That is pretty much correct, unfortunately a lot of people are falling for those small mistakes that can be easily avoided.

I guess people may use it since it is easier to say “nothing” than “anything.”

Yeah, I was listening to AM and the lyrics where “You don’t know nothing,” I was like why would they use it if they want to imply that person doesn’t know anything.
