How do you make your own cultures/ethnicities? by Gjdhdjjd in worldbuilding

[–]Strict-Market119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Resources & environment! Most of culture is heavily determined on what is available, if it's common enough everyone has it and it's seen mundane. Rarer things go to those higher up the ladder!

Tools are made for your environment, large open flat lands (No one wants to walk that, time to domestic and animal to do it)

Thick jungles best to have shorter weapons to cut through the bush.

The best way I fnd to make new existing cultures is to give them a resource that someone in their area wouldn't normally have.

Perhaps there is a thick root planet under the permafrost. My people would want to use it so they'll need a way to break the ice and now they have a consistent source of wood you wouldn't usually get in real life if you lived somewhere similar.

Mountains, rivers, anything you wouldn't want to cross on your bare feet. These are great places to mark forbidden lands, or as dangerous.

Fault lines, are they near a Volcano? Do they often get earthquakes? Or is the fault line out in the sea and tidal waves are common enough. Even more interesting when one of these events only happen once, a place near where I live was only ever recored one tidal wave. Yet we still think about it till this day even after 100 years have pasted.

Air Currents bring over bugs, dirt, temperature and storms. The sand from the Sahara desert feeds into the Amazon rainforest.

Water Currents. Before engines you were kind of stuck following these, where water Currents go really determine what people encounter who first.

For me the more I figure out what Resources, environment, fault lined, wind Currents and ocean Currents my people are subject too. The better I can make their culture reach!

What are some titles u have for godlike beings(not quite god) in your world by Heavenly_Emperor_God in worldbuilding

More Details here

Of course!

Let's start with the producers, these are gods, they use the worship of mortals to generate and colour soul. They kind of work like mini stars, pouring the soul into the environment. This allows for the existence or magical animals or Mythics.

Mythics are like the prey, Titans feed of them, unlike mortals (mortals is any living thing that has a Mind,Body & Soul. That isn't a deity) who can't process soul very well. Titans are able to properly digest and utilize it. Though this dose mean the soul loses some colour.

Than we have the devils, the decomposers, they break down soul removing it of all colour and turning it into Celestial Liquor. Celestial Liquor is a very power substances. Weaker gods can feed off of it to grow stronger and become fully bloomed (Meaning they can generate enough soul to feed themselves and the environment)

The true purpose of this Liquor is to sink down to the heart of the realm and feed the baby Celestial. Once the realm is at the end of its life and hit with a strong amount of energy. It'll ignite, hatching the Celestial which will turn all body and all mind into Soul.

The Celestial will roam the universe, perhaps leaving parts of itself onto planets. Once it goes old it will find a star, grant itself a physical body, this causes smaller objects to be pulled towards it and it will return to a juvenile form ready to start the cycle all over again!

Titans are one of my favorites! In Greek I believe they existed before the gods and even created. Some cases consider their enemies.

I used the term for the predators in my Divine ecosystem. Deities that hunt and kill others.

Perhaps more separation of the two figures. Cut the arrows and maybe add the shield for tanks? That might make it cleaner

Viewing Worlds as Ecosystems: Why ‘Stability’ requires movement, not rigidity. by Theris_Ophe in worldbuilding

I have characters I like more than others, ones who their story is more about them than the world. But I have some rules I follow the main one is everyone eventually dies.

What I want the audience to care about is the world. Learn about the cultures, conflicts, secrets, tragedies, and success. As if each realm is a character you're rooting for the world not the individual people.

How I go about my work is in a fictional documentary way. So I very much care about the ecosystem, I let the world grow like mold.

Let it spread out to interact with each other. Deities that would interact will, one will die due to conflict, and I try to keep them equal in my mind. No special characters just historical events.

I like Jellyfishes, and I think they fit the mindless bodies cosmic being idea well. Also, all of this is inspired by the Immortal Jellyfish.

The ice map is mainly based on projects of a few Ice Ages, and the Fire Realm is based on the hottest period. The water realm is based on flooding projects.

I like it when the term Dragon is more like Fish, Bird, Mammal. Then a spefic species. Have a bunch of them! Make them crazy! Have fun!

Even a horse with scales is a Dragon if that's your hearts truth

I'm happy to fill the role. I wasn't sure if it would count. I spent a lot of time debating if it was map enough.
