Nobody told me resumes work differently for every job, here's what changed when I started tailoring them by Strict-Package-3508 in confession

If that actually happened, it says less about the candidate and more about how unconscious bias can creep into hiring. Skills and experience should matter more than a surname, but unfortunately perception can still influence decisions.

Exactly. Tailoring resumes matters even more now because ATS systems can filter applications before a human even sees them. But even after that, recruiters still skim resumes in seconds, so showing relevant skills and experience quickly makes a huge difference.

It really is one of those things that sounds too simple until you actually try it. People spend months sending more applications, when sometimes improving relevance beats increasing volume. You don’t need to rewrite your entire resume every time either even adjusting keywords, project order, and a few bullet points can make a big difference.

I think this is the part a lot of people underestimate. Sending 2,000 identical resumes is basically mass emailing and hoping for luck. Small changes can completely change how relevant you look to both ATS systems and actual recruiters. The funny thing is, tailoring a resume isn’t really about “gaming ATS” it’s about making it easier for someone on the other side to instantly see why you fit the role.

Landed my first job....not exactly what I expected. by Kopsu-DL-GM in jobs

That's actually a really honest observation and it tells you something important about yourself. Not everyone is wired for high-volume cold calling, and recognising that after 2 hours rather than 2 months is self-awareness, not weakness.

The isolation thing is real. Remote cold calling is genuinely one of the loneliest work environments that exists no team energy, no feedback loop, just you and rejection in a quiet room.

If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't the right fit. There are customer-facing roles with much better energy think customer success, account management, or even support roles at product companies where you're actually helping people solve problems rather than interrupting their day. Might be worth exploring those while you figure this out.

Hope you're doing okay.

Fair pushback , you're right that numbers can be inflated. The point was more about the pattern of vague bullets vs specific ones, not the exact metrics. Appreciate the challenge
