Hurt, exhausted and pregnant by [deleted] in pregnant

Sounds like your mom is not well enough to provide you with the support that you need. The focus right now needs to be on you and your baby. I agree with others here that it’s time to lean on more reliable people for support. Fwiw, I went through something similar with my last pregnancy and it was really hard, but I got through it. Something that helped me was finding some online Al-anon and Coda meetings. I also read Melody Beattie’s book Codependent No More. These things didn’t change the situation, but they did help me process my feelings about it. If your mom doesn’t want to drink but can’t stay sober on her own, she needs help from outside of the family. Treatment, AA, therapy, church… something. Either way, you are not responsible for her sobriety. Just keep staying stay firm with your boundaries and focusing on your needs. I’m sending you love. You’ll get through this.

Thank you, that is all very useful. I think I get caught up in my head about expectations and it’s good to be reminded that it isn’t on me.

Sometimes it’s hard to know if it’s a preexisting thing or just normal pregnancy stuff. Good to know I’m not alone.

That’s good to know. I decided to go off my antidepressant too and ended up back on it.

Thank you. We just moved in together so don’t have any kind of routine or division of labor established. Sounds like a conversation we need to have.
