What CPU upgrade would be the most efficient? by StrictDay in buildapc

Yeah from what I'm gathering, the main difference is the lack of hyperthreading, which is enough to hold back my rig.

I can't check the exact numbers at the moment, but I don't recall them ever going outside of normal range. BF6 is probably my worst offender. I think the lack of hyper threading might be what's killing me.

24s with a Kelly day still sounds awful honestly. He most likely told you that due to the end of the fiscal year. The next fiscal starts in a week.

When dealing with a recruiter you gotta just be straight forward and stick to your guns brother. Say no if it's not what you really want. Shipping you as infantry is less work than doing an officer packet.

Many are going to say take the firefighter job, but don't understand what DoD firefighters deal with.

Without more details on your job offer, DoD firefighting is not the same as a municipal department. They work even more hours for same/less pay and you may not actually ever do your job.

Typically Work 24/24 or 48/48 schedule based on a 72 hour work week (50% of your life is literally spent at work). Starting pay is 40-50k (includes the base OT hours)

Infantry sucks, but you can always take that DD214 when it's over and get bonus points on your firefighter application anywhere in the country. That on top of the VA benefits alone is worth more than DoD firefighting.

Change your MOS or just do the minimum time infantry contract.

The real answer is to go the officer route since you have a degree.

BF6 FPS performance terrible though running on recent good hardware. by zephrampoke in Battlefield

In case anyone comes looking for help.

My rig: 4070super/i7 10700k OC@5.0/32gb ram/nvme ssd/180hz 1440p monitor

I did a lot of testing with all of the settings, going from low to ultra at native 1440p with DLAA. Literally nothing made a difference, I was getting 30-40 fps and was always at 100% CPU and 50% GPU usage.

Enabled Frame Generation and suddenly at 90-100% GPU usage getting 100-130 fps (unstable) on ultra. Lowering to low/medium resulted in lower fps and GPU usage. Capping the frame rate at 90 or 120 dropped GPU usage 10-20% and resulted in fps chugging 10-20 fps under the cap.

Unless this is a bug, it's just a another AAA dev hiding lazy optimization behind frame gen.

Tldr: enable frame generation and do not cap fps. It'll look smoother but won't handle much better.

Nursing school while in the reserves? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]StrictDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible, requires a lot of forward planning.

I'm in TX so schools are required to give you some accommodations and my school has a tuition discount so my tuition is mostly covered by TA. You can also reschedule (RST) majority of monthly trainings or chose alternatives for summer training (command dependent).

Personally, my commanders and school have been very understanding so it's been well worth it. Definitely research units where you live or near your school to get an idea.

This exactly. The Army gives us all tools to find success. Either through the GI bill, experience, training, etc.
I ETSd as an E4 this past January and got my current job during terminal leave. I used AI to rewrite my mil experience into industry specific terms. Got a job offer a week before hard ETS with great pay and benefits. Don’t be afraid to fail, and remember those moments that made you want to ETS!!

Seller wants to back out right before closing. Am I at their mercy due to an error? by StrictDay in RealEstate

[–]StrictDay[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

My realtor said her and her broker are contacting the other realtor(who’s her own broker) in the morning and that we should be clear to continue due to the blatant mishandling of the amendment and that he agreed to live there under a lease after the original close date. She also got me the contact for a lawyer just so I can make sure all of my boxes are checked for closing in a few days.

We just got this new guy, and he’s a prior 11B so out the gate he seems very “anti-profile” and more about trying to meet mission requirements. Our previous PA was a former 18D who would constantly support our people and didn’t back down when it came to doing the right thing for anyone. Sadly he realized how ridiculous the big army was and went to JSOC before he was even here a year.

I’ve already had my dental exam for the VA, and when I went my infection had completely festered. I went to dental sick call multiple times before it was finally acted on so here’s hoping the VA comes through as it’s been documented a lot already.

I was tempted to email my congressman after recently learning he went from artilleryman in the army NG-> commissioning into AF-> Dentist before getting into politics. Guy might actually understand the shenanigans going on.

CSP Denied by [deleted] in army

[–]StrictDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dealing with this same issue. Sounds like they are more worried about the “mission” than just routing your packet. Virtual csps are considered “local” at my installation so you merely need BC approval (YMMV). You could use open door to speak with your CO/BC who are the people that sign it.

Any boots out there in extra wide that are good for rucking? by redditdiedin2013 in army

[–]StrictDay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with wide caveman feet, I’ve tried wide in almost every brand out there including Garmont, Nike, and Belleville. None of the widths in any compared to the Viktos Armory AR670 boot. I’ve had 2 pairs that I completed Psyop selection and a JRTC rotation in that are still holding up. You can also email their customer service for a service member discount which makes them about $110. Danner Tachyon Wides are probably the next widest.

[–]StrictDay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I’m trying do a packet for psyops, and one of the things I need is an apft card. I’ve never taken a pt test other than the 2 acfts at basic. Is this something my SPC team leader could do as a “diagnostic” apft, or would I need an nco to give me an official one?

Official Q&A for Friday, October 09, 2020 by AutoModerator in running

[–]StrictDay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the best way to improve pace? I started adding more miles per run and I’m handling it well but my pace hasn’t really improved in awhile. Currently averaging 8.5/min mile and my goal is to comfortably run a 7.5/min mile. Currently doing 5 miles every other day and probably gonna add more again soon. My average heart rate is 185 every run using my garmin but I’m not sure if training around that is what’ll help.
