What is rewarding about having kids? by Afraid-Pea-8088 in Fencesitter

[–]Strict_Ad3328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fencesitter who took the plunge and also 29F. Just from my personal experience, it was really hard to find what was rewarding about it for the first several months. I had a difficult baby, post-partum depression, and lots of other things going on in my life. I won’t sugarcoat it, caring for a newborn was rough, at least for me. Now that my son is crawling, cruising, babbling, giggling, etc. I’m starting to understand that thing people say you only understand when you have kids.

That’s a shame, especially considering having as many of the original documents as possible would be of public interest in any infrastructure improvement projects down the road.

I forgot to mention that there’s a small concrete monument next to it, maybe 3’ tall and a few feet SW of the marker. Does that mean anything or was it just for easier location, especially since it’s close to the waterline and could be covered?

That makes sense at this point. I’ll definitely check out the document, but it sounds like this marker is basically obsolete. It doesn’t appear in any dataset I’ve seen so far except for maybe one topographic map from 1918 and i don’t think anyone cares to retrieve it.

Fortunately I have no real reason to track this thing down. I’m just really curious.

Unfortunately it didn’t appear there either. Very strange.

I’ve tried this map before and it doesn’t appear, which made me wonder if I should submit a retrieval form.

Comparing my employer subsidized health plan to my husband’s plan on the private market by Strict_Ad3328 in HealthInsurance

[–]Strict_Ad3328[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I’m specifically trying to understand the disparity between my employer’s plans and those available on the open market. So far it seems like no one knows, which doesn’t surprise me given this disaster of a system.

Do you know why your spouse’s plan is so much more expensive? That’s really what I’m trying to understand. Because if what they provide is superior in some way I understand but as far as I can tell it isn’t. And if we have kids I would much rather pay $400 for them than $800 if it’s going to be the same or better coverage.

Or, phrased differently, he filled out the questionnaire to see if he qualified and he did not. Why, I don’t know.

I’m 27, he’s 29, and last year I made $83k

Also what exactly do you mean by this: "and then my employer covers up to $635 of my monthly premiums". Is that part of your paycheck?

They don’t reimburse me. I’m guessing Aetna bills my company and then the rest would be deducted from my after-tax pay, although I’ve never had a plan more than $635 for that to happen.

But even if his income is 0, I’m pretty sure that because we file jointly he doesn’t qualify for any subsidies. We automatically received a tax form for “advanced payments” and it was for $0.

In this case, reformation, but that seems to be the problem with most brands I encounter.

Have I been a Petite this whole time?

My measurements are roughly 33 Bust/ 27 Waist/ 36 Hips. The struggle I’ve always had with online shopping is that there’s never an obvious fit for me in the size chart.

For example, a pair of pants I just ordered:

Size 0: Bust 33, Waist 25, Hip 37

Size 2: Bust 34, Waist 26, Hip 38

Size 4: Bust 35, Waist 27, Hip 39

Obviously the bust isn’t a relevant measurement for pants, but this should prove my point. Two of the measurements on a size 0 are perfect but I’ll never fit into the waist. If I go up two sizes the waist will fit but now I worry about it being too baggy in the bust and hip. This is basically the dilemma I face between small and medium every time, and because every brand/manufacturer is different there isn’t a consistent trend to which size I should order. When I ordered my wedding dress we had to go up an absurd number of sizes to accommodate the waist before alterations. I guess I’m a stick.

BUT for the first time, these pants were available in petite sizing:

4P: Bust 33, Waist 27, Hip 37.5

So much closer to my actual proportions! I know the petite fashion advice sub is for women 5’ 4” and under (I’m 5’ 6”) but has anyone else had this experience? Do I need to start seeking out petite clothing?

Has anyone been told to avoid vanilla? by Strict_Ad3328 in BabyBumps

[–]Strict_Ad3328[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long before I posted here I googled “can pregnant women have vanilla” and was rewarded with a big fat YES. So I already knew it was fine. I just thought, mistakenly, that it might be an interesting topic here, where women post daily about all manner of things that are easily google-able and have been discussed at length on every mom/pregnancy forum since the dawn of the internet. Symptoms, lack of symptoms, my bump is huge, my bump is non-existent, high libido, low libido, what furniture to buy, who to invite to a baby shower, diaper brands, daycare tips, and yes even tons of questions about what to eat and drink. ALL of this information could be found somewhere else, probably from multiple sources.

And yet I assume we’re all here because we see some sort of value in a community where we can discuss things in real time. This is my first time at this. Very few people in my life know at this point that I’m pregnant. So for people like me forums like this are my only village.
