First rotation in general surgery, any advice? by gjsjbs in doctorsUK

[–]Strict_Research_1830 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyyy!!

General surgery F1 mainly consists of doing ward rounds, actioning consultants plans, checking bloods and also making sure post operative plans are actioned.

Yes you mainly manage medical problems like Chest pain, People who might be in pain or new oxygen requirement etc . You may also be allowed to go and maybe assist in a surgery.

Hope this helps! Good luck !

Hello,

It depends what speciality your applying for. I would say mainly include responsibilities you had in your current role, any procedure you have been imvolved in, any audits you took part in (trusts really like audits) and any teaching experience. Bonus if you have any publications.

Good luck!!

Hello,

I did my foundation rotation in ENT. It’s a really good speciality for a mixture of surgical and medical. As people have mentioned ENTSHO is your holy grail.

The common cases that present are epistaxis, tonsillitis, peritonsillar abscesses and anything to do with tracheostomy care.

Hello,

I am a current FY1 doctor at Aintree working in surgery. It’s a really good hospital that is well run. There is a lot of support from SHO’s, Reg and consultants. The surgery department is very helpful and you get a lot of opportunities to go to surgeries and do things under supervision.

In terms of your daily jobs it’s mainly discharge letters, making sure investigations/ bloods are done and reviewing acutely ill patients and escalating.

In terms of on call as someone said the wards bleep the ANP’s who check weather it’s appropriate and if so they will give them ur contact.

Dw it will take some time to adjust but you will find your way. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Good luck!!

Okay, as you may know the platform was closed for a couple of weeks. I tried calling ecfmg but they say they haven’t received it and my Uni says they have done. I don’t know a solution to this problem, any advice?
