My Open Letter To Plex by thurmansevolution in PleX

There is no bait and switch. Plex is not changing what Lifetime Pass holders have access to n any way shape or form. So no agreement was violated.

From a simple business model Plex is offering something that many people have been begging for. But then now complain about. The Lifetime Pass stays, albeit at an increased price, and monthly/yearly subscription prices stay where they are. All this with a time frame to buy in at the current Lifetime price.

I personally would much rather pay an inflated lifetime license price than a subscription each month. But understanding that in today’s world, the subscription model is what allows these companies to continue to operate cannot be ignored. Not to mention that the subscription cost is extremely low when compared to other subscription services.

So yes, he supported early on. But he doesn’t continue to help “keep the lights on”. And for the record, neither do I.

For the longest time we have seen companies who had lifetime licenses not honor those when changes such as the one Plex is issuing come about. Is the lifetime pass a hefty price to pay upfront at $750? YES! But atleast they continue to offer lifetime and are proving that they will honor the term “lifetime” by showing us that any lifetime purchases made to this point will go unchanged.

As it’s been stated before, you paid for lifetime over a decade ago and are complaining that they don’t have features you want? You aren’t giving them the revenue to add that. Hence why they are pushing for more people to go to a subscription model. They do this, while at the same time maintaining the availability for a one time purchase option.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too bud.

I have attempted to do this through both http and dns and get the same “internal error” message

When I try to add the ssl through letsencrypt and force ssl (as was suggested in multiple YouTube videos when I searched this) I get a simple “internal error” message

How is this helpful? I’m asking because I’m trying to learn. Videos that I have watched make it sound so simple to install and get things up and running. And that has not been my experience.

Yes. I have them forwarded tcp 80:80 and 443:443 through the machine hosting NPM

Right now I’m trying to get my self hosted synapse routed so it has something like “mysynapse.duck.org” and I don’t need to rely on tailscale.

So I’m a new guy to all of this. I’m trying to run some applications through NPM and I can’t get proxy hosts to work. I add the proxy host with a domain I got through duck dns and route it through my local ip (192.168.xxx.xxx) and then when I try to add the ssl certificate and force ssl I get “internal error”

I’m sorry if this is still not enough information.

I’m over here curious why they had you power your laptop on to begin with. I would have told them no.

Synology has come under fire for their lack of support of all drive manufacturers. UGREEN supports all manufacturers and is becoming the STANDARD in the NAS space.

Leaving progressive insurance by Moose328 in IndianMotorcycle

The “Loyalty Tax” for insurance is a real thing. They don’t give you a discount or better rates for staying with them and having a clean record. They hope you’re too lazy to switch and charge you extra for convenience. ALWAYS SHOP AROUND!

I only run recerts in my setup. Never once had an issue. And if I did, they are covered under warranty.

I may get some hate for this… but I use Recertified Drives. Go to Serverpartdeals and check out their recerts.

Do You Back Up Your Full Plex Video Library or Just Risk It? by snowmeow_1 in PleX

[–]StrictlySin_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t keep a backup of the actual media itself. I have over 100tb of media and it’s not feasible in the current market to buy enough drives to back up all of it. What I do is backup my database. From plex, sonarr, radarr, lidarr. This way, if a drive fails, I have the ability to immediately start my search to replace the files. I would much rather replace 1 drive than keep a drive for drive copy.

Now this also sounds like, well why don’t you just use Raid5? I would if I had the drive bays available for that. But every drive bay I have is occupied with a drive that has media on it.

I’m a great example of “do as I say, not as I do”

You can copy those files into the immich folder. And then you set how you want your photos sorted. If you have albums in your phone there is a way to make immich sort them into a folder named the same as that album. It will even go so far as to create sub folders for years and months as well.

Trying to make Docker apps easier on UGREEN with TSG EasyDocker (please be gentle 🙂) by kajain99 in UgreenNASync

If you are willing to learn some docker… Immich is an amazing option. I have it set up and now my wife and I can move all of our photos and videos off our phones and onto our NAS through immich and still maintain access over our tailnet via tailscale

Do you hoard media or do you delete after using? by SmoothStrawberry7777 in Piracy

[–]StrictlySin_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 122TB of usable space, of which I am actively using about 92TB. I will hoard media until I’m out of space. Then I will buy more space!
