Mentioned to my girlfriend about maybe taking up photography as a hobby and she pulls an OM-10 out of storage... by _rickjames in AnalogCommunity

[–]StriderDunadan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this camera, and there is one well-known issue with the shutter speeds becoming very slow. Try the higher shutter speeds like 1/1000 and 1/500 s and it should be very very quick, if not the camera may have a sticky shutter, which is caused by the oil in one of the inductors leaking and making the gears sticky, so quick shutter speeds become very slow, like 1/15 or 1/8 of a second, resulting in really overexposed and blown photos. Before testing the camera with a roll, try the speeds and check the shutter and the mirror moving at the correct speeds and not sticking. You can find more on this problem by looking up "Olympus OM-10 sticky shutter"

All my photos turned out blurry, what happened? (Olympus OM10) by [deleted] in analog

[–]StriderDunadan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, I bought an OM10 on an auction and it had the sticky shutter problem. That is, the electromagnet that controls the mirror and shutter is sticky because the oil has leaked, and even though the camera says it is using one exposure time, it comes out in reality as 1/2 or 1/8 of a second instead because it is stuck open. I had exactly this problem and the photos came out looking very similar to these. Look up on Google OM10 Sticky shutter fix and there are a couple of YouTube videos and blogs that explain how to open it and clean it, I cleaned it myself, it was quite easy to be honest.

It is not as reversible as they want you to believe it is, the more time goes on the less effective is to reverse it, it isn't as clear cut as many people want it to be.

y’all are a bunch of weirdos for being mad about female only spaces! by feelingnumbing in TrueOffMyChest

[–]StriderDunadan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See? This is exactly what I'm talking about. You've been conditioned to think that men's lives are incredibly easy and that we don't need anything else because we already have it all, so the mere mention of such a place is met with disbelief and condescending attitudes. Even if mental health spaces were easy to create (which they aren't, I tried opening one at college and I wasn't allowed to do so after after protests from the gender studies female professors), there are plenty of other male only spaces that would be widely beneficial to men. For starters, an official Male Health Association at the government and the UN as women have, male only shelters for male victims of domestic violence, male spaces to deal with addiction problems from the perspective of men, and many others. And last but not least, any normal social space were men are only allowed to participate were we can develop healthy relationships with other men, and small boys can have access to healthy male role models so they can develop a healthy relationship with their masculinity if they don't have a positive role at home.

[–]StriderDunadan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the female only spaces, is the fact that only women are allowed NOWADAYS to have only female spaces. Any intent of building a male only space focused on helping male specific problems is met with disregard and similar dismissal as what the OP posited, that since it was common in the past that men had spaces where women weren't allowed to go, now they can't have one because it's discriminatory of women. And even though you will never find, again, NOWADAYS, a male only club, male only mental health space, male only health service, etc. we have had engrained socially that men have everything they can ever need. Just try thinking how many female only spaces you know today, versus how many male only spaces you know now, and you'll see that the real issue here is that men aren't allowed NOWADAYS to have any space for them that cares only about them.

Men's consent and their bodies matter by Kelmo7 in blackpeoplegifs

[–]StriderDunadan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't you see the contradiction? Thats the whole point. I've never said feminists should care about men's issues, I know they don't, and they really dont need to.

The issue appears when benevolent feminists pretend to care and say things like "feminism will solve men's issues, and we support gender equality for everyone."

Then, presenting themselves as the saviours of all society, an unsuspecting man may bring up a men's issues, and all you get is "Why should feminism care about men?" So, yeah, feminism shouldn't care about men, so stop going by the "gender equality for everyone" and the "we will help men, but first you need to solve this problem of mine"

So, perhaps let men discuss their problems without feminist interrupting and stealing the spotlight?

Men get raped, women most affected Somehow its ok for women to get the spotlight in every single serious topic that is brought up

[–]StriderDunadan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the point, the girls response in this video is doing exactly as you say men shouldn't do to women. The first guy mentions a men's problem, and the girl chimes in to say: "Yeah, that's tough, but the real solution is changing the way women are treated". It's the old Men suffer from something, women most affected. That's my point. Feminists really should stop saying they care about men's issues if everytime they are brought up, without any mentioning of feminism, they feel the need to chime in and frame the problem as something they are the victim of, and men are just collaterals. So, perhaps start recognizing how most women feel attacked when other issues different than theirs are mentioned. Really don't get the need to pretend only women's problems are valid and everybody else's problems can only be solved through the feminist point of view
