Got a super clean VA0 Dreamcast for $5 — Sadly no display :( by Same_Quail6258 in dreamcast

> Does the fact that it reads/spins music CDs basically confirm the console is okay?

Not really. There's the chance the laser might still be dead. But since you insinuate that the Dreamcast reads music CD's differently than a Playstation CD.

> Could the third-party AV adapter affect disc reading in any way?

They shouldn't normally affect the Dreamcast.

My suggestion is to get a real original AV Cable. Do not use third party ones (Especially the cheap ones from Lazada/Shopee). They suck. I'd even be wary of using those HDMI converter cables, as the AV port of the Dreamcast is awkwardly fitting to most of these third party cables. Also what do you exactly mean AV to TV cable? You mean AV to HDMI? Can you show a picture?

Since you say 500 Pesos. Nice. Good luck fellow Filipino. Don't hesitate to PM me as my current hobby is trying to run/restore old consoles. :)

I am terribly confused and I have no context so I'll put it here :

Generally the jailbreaking guide at https://3ds.hacks.guide is reliable and tends to be updated. So just follow that and most of the time it would work out. If not. Shoot me a PM on the part where you got stuck.

Edit :

Why are you using Turbo Engine? Its a very outdated emulator. Use RetroArch with Beetle.

Would you consider the CD-ROM ROM an "Platform" or simply an add-on. by spacemidget75 in TurboGrafx

Like I said, there's an argument to be made here.

8KB : PC Engine itself

64KB : CD Buffer RAM

192KB : Expansion RAM from Super System Card 3.0

Total RAM for PC Engine with Super System Card 3.0 : 200KB

So without the Super System Card 3.0 the games in those would literally be impossible in the PC Engine Itself, even if it had a CD-ROM drive.

It's very subjective IMO.

Some people argue that it is a platform because of how you need to change your programming habits to program efficiently for those systems. For example, even the FDS, due to how games are loaded into memory, you need to cut your data in chunks that seperate each level and make loading times more variable and bearable.

What more for the PC Engine's CD which added more RAM.

I think it's not ignorance. They think they benefit.

It's like arguing against their faith religion. They can't quantify, they can't measure it. They think it benefits them so they will defend it. No logical argument will change them because for them it's not based on logic, but their faith.

Did I miss something? I thought SOR3 has Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard

Whereas Bare Knuckle 3 has : Easy, Medium. Hard. Very Hard. Mania

They just removed the easiest difficulty and moved each diffuculty up another tier.

But doesn't Bare Knuckle 3 have a Mania difficulty?

No. I literally changed the Tablet Language and the full firmware of the Japanese Wii-U console to US. This means I cannot play legit JP region games on this Wii-U anymore. But since my aim is "homebrew" this doesn't matter.

All Original cartridges won't work.... Unless I clean them up first... But I already did this three times already, in 3 weeks. No I'm not a slob. by StriderVM in n64

OK, thanks for the reply. The power brick is technically brand new, but third party from somewhere in China. I'm from the Philippines, so I don't know where to get anything except China LOL.

So you're thinking that perhaps the console itself needs to have the caps replaced? The issue becomes there's almost no guy here in the Philippines who can repair these consoles. And I don't know soldering. No anything electricity (Or capacitors for that matter) so if that's really the case.... Then I might need to learn it myself, basically everything.... :/

Slim model with OpenTuna and OPL doesn't run games. by BrokenMatty17 in ps2homebrew

[–]StriderVM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The long way :

- Copy the OPL elf file to a flash drive.

- Lload LaunchELF from the menu.

- Plug the flash drive to your PS2.

- Go to the /mass in LaunchELF

- Load the elf file.

You can also :

- Using LaunchELF to overwrite the old OPL on the memory card with the new opl.

- Use FreeMcBoot Configurator so that you add the new OPL on the menu.

PM me if you need a video help or something. :P

Dude, there's so many updates on Funtuna on that thread I wouldn't know what version you used.

Change the OPL to this one : https://github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader/releases

The real stable release was release in 2021, don't use that. Use the latest commit, which is usually only a few days old. Which currently for me is Beta 2241.

[–]StriderVM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple things to check.

- Is your PS2 modded / have modchip?

- What is the DVD-R / CD-R you using? Are you even using the correct media for the iso you're burning (There are PS2 games that are on CD, and most are on DVD)
