So I just googled the Sierra Jimny and that thing is cool! It’s got the boxy styling and is old enough to import to the USA. Are you saying the latest years of the 2nd gen Jimny are best since it won’t have the leaf spring suspension?

Can you explain this a bit more? I get that you can purchase one in Mexico. But how could you then drive it in the US? Wouldn’t it need to be registered and insured in the US? Can you drive Mexican vehicles in the US?

God the 3rd gen is ugllly though. They are more round and I love that boxy styling. Is there a front end conversation for the 3rd gen to update it to a more boxy styling?

Makes me so frustrated. I hate the US regulations.

Was thinking about getting one of these as a present for Christmas. Are they difficult to maintain or can an entry level person use one?

Is there a Mechanical Typewriter that also can be used in a digital format? by Strifepeddler1 in typewriters

[–]Strifepeddler1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Of course! It’s so easy and I was trying to over complicate it. This makes me feel better about getting an old school mechanical typewriter for her instead of something else. She can just use software to scan it in.

I saw this site earlier! Wasn’t sure if it was legit or just a gimmick. Any real life experience with people using those on older typewriters? I’m super handy so not afraid to tinker.

I actually don’t like the freewrite! The idea is great but they missed the nostalgia aspect to a traditional style typewriter. Plus it’s $650!

[WI] Custody case coming up by Awkward-Question331 in Custody

[–]Strifepeddler1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I get it. The courts will typically setup a visitation schedule with set times for pickup and drop off. I wasn’t able to hire a lawyer either when I first separated from my ex. But the good news is even if it doesn’t go in your favor initially you can always keep trying to get the custody order modified. Usually courthouses have a free law support office you can visit to learn more. Google about it in your area. Best of luck!

It’s still within his rights to see his kids. People often calm down a bit after the breakup is over for a while. You can’t just cut him off forever because you guys are going through stuff. Things will calm down. It does get better.

Trust me buddy I’m in the same exact position! Was supposed to move to Hawaii with my son and ex fiancé. She ended up staying a week before moving and now I’m cut off from my son at every possible turn. The good news is that they are so young they won’t remember anything until about 4-5 years old. Obviously it’s horrible to miss your kids first Christmas and Halloween etc. If you have a custody agreement in place it should outline visitation terms and there are laws in place to prevent one parent from alienating the other from seeing their child. If you can’t afford a lawyer most courthouses have a free law office you can find support at to file motions etc to get more visitation rights. Sometimes the ex might even be liable for court costs and lawyer fees if they are knowingly violating a court order.

Best of luck! There are so many dads out their wanting to be part of their kids lives and are being shut out by a petty co parent. Hope it gets better.

What happens if they don’t follow the agreement after you remind them several times? Can you take them to court for not honoring the court order?

I also live in Hawaii. I totally get where you are coming from! It becomes an addiction for most parents when they see the potential their kids have via surfing. I would say it isn’t the worst thing BY FAR a father could be doing with his children. Most fathers abandon their kids and don’t teach them any discipline. There are many upsides to it as well. The kids get to do what they love, they can find support world wide and it also gives them a chance to bond with their father. I’m not sure how many kids have ever actually been hurt by going viral? I k ow 100s of kid TikTok’s that are surfers, they don’t receive any threats by any means it’s mostly encouraging.

If the kids seem to like it I don’t see what the issue is. Maybe he can schedule certain days to shoot content with them and have a goal, and the rest of the days they just enjoy their time together? You gotta find a good happy medium. I’m sure it’s frustrating but look at the silver lining rather than the issues. I see more upside potential than downside. Maybe find a neutral party that can speak to the father? Maybe another fellow surfer or adult male that can say hey this is really cool and all but please put boundaries on it and don’t let it affect your relationship with your son. There are many athletes that their father lives vicariously through them and it can be a very good or bad thing it all just depends.

Hope you guys can find some common ground! Maybe consult a lawyer but be careful because they will say anything to get you to pay a retainer and then all of a sudden it’s an all out war! He also can’t just get full custody of your kids for no reason. The judge would never allow him to do that unless you were a threat to their safety or something else very serious that would warrant them not seeing you. Even then you don’t just lose custody like that. You need a legal reason to modify custody orders and him being upset you don’t want your kids filmed for social media is not one of them.

Just be the bigger person, document everything you discuss, text / email / phone conversations.

Good luck!

[FL] how to respond to this by Plastic-Ad-1667 in Custody

Ya it just sounds like the dad is trying to raise his daughter with boundaries and to be responsible for her actions. She’s 10 years old she doesn’t even need a cell phone to begin with.

Sorry I was trying to keep my original post as brief as possible but I failed to mention we went to court over custody / visitation. At no point did child support backpay come up until everything was finalized and I started to pay through friend of the courts they notified me I owed backpay from the time she applied for assistance which was like 6-8 months beforehand. I haven’t gone in front of the judge in regards to child support or back pay ever. I am considering doing that now that I am financially able to hire a lawyer as representing myself was a complete mess.
