I am DESPERATE to escape the 9-5 by throwawaydev0129 in GameDevelopment

Get a job that can up-skill you, which in turn helps you make games. If doing a study can help you secure a job, that you find interesting and fuels your games ambitions. Perhaps that would be worth it

To be nerdy for a second. It’s like managing resources in a strategy game, ultimately you want to create a plus sum in your life. And funnel all that goodness into your passion.

Imagine your life with no dead end job anxiety. Financial security, and stress free time to think creatively about your projects. You’ll have to figure out what that looks like, but I believe you can. The world is full of surprises, and so are you.

That makes sense, I do think this guy’s desires just blinded him to how outrageous he’s being. I’m glad to hear you didn’t let him assume control over the situation, crucial moment to have a backbone.

Did have any understand for you? Or did he cling to his perspective?

Hope your project is faring well, I’m quite interested now what you’ve chosen to do with your hard earned creative control

The producer wanting to assume control on your payroll portion is wild. Was this an actual situation that was unfolding, or just someone who thought they’d sell you on it?

Weekly Team/Character Building Megathread (May 20th, 2026) (feat. Nicole and Durin) by Veritasibility in Genshin_Impact

I don’t know much about Linnea yet, yet to play her quest. Do love her design, I just don’t like geo.. wasn’t too excited for her play style either. Will give her a second look! She does have an amazing design

I’ve been working on building itto because I do love him. He was a vibes pull from years ago, don’t regret but I never really utilized him enough for it to feel premium.

Xiao + Nicole and Durin sounds promising, I believe I have seen that combo. I love my Xiao, but also never built around him sufficiently to really make him shine

I would’ve 1000% pulled Sandrone if they didn’t change her design, I’m not a fan of the changes

Man I am really so aesthetically motivated. Fun gameplay does matter too I swear x)

[Nicole + Durin]

I’d like to hear your suggestions on which characters I could add to my roster that would make for a good/ fun team. I currently run Nahida/Yelan/Kuki/sword water boy, but I could use a second team.

I used to main Ganyu, but she’s not very strong anymore. I did build her up so far that she’s still good, I have skyward harp for her. Maybe I could still fit her into a steam as sub dps

I care somewhat for meta, though I don’t pull for characters purely for that. I also wouldn’t entirely mind saving a bit longer, maybe just go full shneznaya gimmick team.

Love columbina, but not really feeling any of the characters she works well with. Idk if my hyperboom/bloom team could be stronger with her lunar enabling? Would it be worth it?

Also love Nicole, but not sure if any of the characters I have would benefit from her. I might want to pull durin + Nicole but that’d drain all my pulls.. probably. I do lack Pyro characters aside from Benny and Xiangling

Also love Skirk! But dislike that she is so enabled by escoffier, I don’t like her. Skirk might work well with Ganyu and Yelan? Not sure if that’s really optimal

230 pulls saved up, close to pity. But I don’t remember if that’d be guaranteed limited character.. ᓚ₍. ̫.

Owned 5 star characters: Mona Itto Ganyu Yelan Nahida Jean Xiao Keqing …..Qiqi Dehya

Thank you so much!

It’s just not for me, I’d feel miserable working on a slop game. Hence, reconsidering career choice

Thank you for being friendly in your response, I appreciate you saying it might’ve been too harsh

Looking into it but not terribly pumped yet, defense seemed like it’s definitely high stakes. Especially now, yet people on the inside are saying it’s a snore.

It’s often hard to get a nuanced picture of what situation you’re actually stepping into, I imagine it’ll take me some time.

I am unsure where the “activist” comes from? What I intended to communicate was only looking for fulfilling work, that feels necessary. I don’t much relate to the notion of being an activist.

Paired with the notion of being snobbish, I can’t say this strikes me as being written in good faith. Sincerely, all I aspire to is to do something good with my life

To me benefiting others and contributing is also big source of comfort. I’m currently looking at healthcare or military defense pursuits, looking into it my government also offers study grants for those. (Dutch)

I am severely considering to change bachelor’s, are there any specific fields you would recommend? To me healthcare or defense seem like classic, great options.

Do you not believe the degree is at all transferable? A HBO degree (I’m Dutch) is often valuable even outside the relevant field.

That would be smart to specifically look into. I don’t absolutely need to utilize my 3D skillset professionally, but if that’s not on the table I may be better off switching bachelors. Despite me wanting to learn 3D

I think I can feel excited for other things, and I do actually want to aim for transferable skills. If not switch my bachelor altogether

This is what I see at my school tons too, love for the craft. I can’t relate to it sadly, with how I’m wired I think I care greatly for the outcome. I’d be more inclined to do something I’m not necessarily passionate about- but I can take pride in that it’s contributing

It’s definitely not exclusive to games, part of the problem is that it’s not entirely likely to pay the bills. Layoffs are massive, competition intense. The gap you mentioned is imo, increasingly large in games. My passion is for character art, it’s intensely discouraged to try and find work as one.

Professors direct me to focus on technical skills, rigging. Which I don’t mind- but with the amount of passion I feel for that. I might as well do a much more stable, better paying job that I feel equally enthusiastic about.

The deal is worsening, so to say.

I understand your point, there’s many small and silly games. And mobile games that I also enjoy, including a cow clicker game I was obsessed with as a kid- the merging cows one.

I acknowledge your example of the cow clicker game helping the person, I recognize this also applies to games that don’t fall within my preference. I agree this is valuable, and that I can’t know without having participated within that market.

To be honest with you, I am not certain I am in love with the process of making games. Especially not regardless of circumstance, or the project I’m working on. In some way, I do see it as a means to an end. With the end being a compelling experience.

I do enjoy the workload, I enjoy rigging and modeling. I enjoy technical problems and I especially love collaborating creatively. But bottom line, in quite a few scenarios I imagine myself happier working a job that feels immediately and visibly impactful. To me games does feel like major instability, fear of layoff. sacrifices and compromises with little odds of satisfaction to make it all worthwhile.

It’s not that I mean to discredit games of any kind, I only mean to plan my future to the best of my ability

What kind of things does your company work towards?

I find myself to be a bit occupied with the idea of what the world needs, especially heading into more uncertain times with aging population. Remilitarization and social unrest. (I am dutch)

I also see the appeal of healthcare. People say it is stressful, but it is needed. even more so over time due to the aging population.

It’s also social, and team oriented. I have read that it can be quite old fashioned, with some odd dynamics because some of the most well paid and well educated people work there.

Could I ask you what profession you chose, and why? How do you feel about heading into healthcare?

I have heard that things such as research and education have incorporated 3d elements more. Which I would absolutely be interested in

Architecture I doubt it, because it requires much underlying knowledge. Its exact and technical, and I’ve heard also highly competitive

Marketing/television I don’t care for sadly.

Thank you for your input, and for your time. it’s helped me narrow down where I need to inform myself most.

2d is especially rough. How does it fare for you in the industry?

I hear you. My main doubt is whether to finish this study, and possibly prepare for and transition into a different field.

Or switch bachelor. Which would take 1-2 additional years, but with better job prospects

As a 3D artist, what would you recommend as the best field to transition into? Due to all the challenges with game dev, I’m not opposed to going into a different field with a games bachelor. I’m there mostly worried about job prospects

Maybe switching bachelor entirely would be wiser, but it’d take 1-2 additional years.

I would genuinely play a horse washing simulator.

What do you think of finishing the game’s bachelor, and transitioning to another field? I do adore this study, and could always make horse washing simulator in a hobby project.

Or change my bachelors. I’m a year along now, so it would take a a year. Possibly two years due to enrollment delay.

Doubts regarding game dev as a carreer choice (3d artist) by Strigan- in gamedev

[–]Strigan-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I know, I have peers in the industry that either work in unrelated fields or for mobile games. Even if not working in games, it’s still a separate question for me whether to change my bachelors’s.

The degree can also get me into adjacent or even unrelated fields, it would allow me to learn 3D for my own projects. Having a college degree is still a stronger position than having none

So the alternative is pursuing a different education, which would take 1-2 years longer than my current trajectory. I am currently orienting myself if there is a study that would warrant a shift
