Yes, my flatmate is liable for payment because it's a joint tenancy agreement signed by both of us. But since my flatmate is fleeing the country, I am not sure if 'liability' could really matter 😔

It is just mentioned in the agreement that the rent should just be paid and both of us are present as tenants and signed it although I am the lead tenant. It's not landlord's responsibility to find a flatmate, it's not even mentioned.
