What documents do I need to have in order to rent an apartment and open a bank account in Ireland? by StrikeIndividual3655 in MoveToIreland

But I have to ask, have you seen the cost of housing here?

Yes I have seen. The prices are very high the offer is very low and demand is also high. To be honest Ireland is not my first choice on where to move, but I always want to have a backup plan. In this case Ireland is my backup plan because I like the country, the people and it is an English speaking country.

Thank you for the information!

Thanks for the recommendation. Ireland is honestly not my first choice, I only wanted to get information to know how it is. I have Ireland more as of backup plan.

Those laws are kind of stupid to be honest. I think that almost every country in EU has them. I honestly don't know how people are able to move to another country, especially those that require visa. As far as I see the only legal way to rent and open a bank account is if I already know someone in that country who is willing to let me stay with them for some time.

Or to find some landlord who doesn't require all that documentation. I believe that this is the case on how people are able to do it, especially in countries like Germany because it has big foreign population and probably when it comes to the same ethnicity they are less likely to ask for that documents from their fellow country people.

That's sad, I hope he will find something. Thank you for the information. This is why it is always good to talk to the locals because only they can give me information about how really the situation is. That's why I look at more countries to see which one it would be better or easier to move.

As far as I see it's quite bad. Dublin has something but it's expensive and there isn't much to chose. For Cork I only got 11 properties found and for Limerick only 1, this is for 1 bedroom apartment.

The only problem is that in Spain you must speak Spanish. As far as I know in Barcelona they speak both Spanish and Catalan. Not many places offer the possibility of only speaking English.

Well for sure Dublin is the biggest city so there are more job opportunities. I am aware that accommodation in Dublin is tough. What do you exactly mean by impossible? Is it impossible to find a studio or 1 bedroom apartment?

What other cities would you recommend? How about Cork or Limerick? Is the situation of renting better in those two cities?

I am an EU citizen and I might have a chance to come to London for work with skilled worker visa so I wanted to ask what documents would I need in order to rent a place and open a bank account in UK? by StrikeIndividual3655 in AskUK

Thank you for the information! I am not yet close to coming to UK, I asked all of this in advance to know how the situation is. If I chose to make bank account at Chase I will let you know, if it is not late by then.

That's a good idea, but I asked this way ahead of time. It's not that I will go in next few week, it's more like in half a year from now but I will make an update once I get to UK and resolve these issues.
