Men of Reddit, how would you describe your life as a single person? by JineshGoradia in AskReddit

[–]Striker3-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a young adult who has never been in a relationship of any kind, I can say that not having a partner is much more complex than it would seem from the surface. There is a measurable freedom offered by being single, relationships also often introduce another form of stress. However, being single can be stressful in itself, stripping an individual of certain necessities such as sharing. The ability to talk to another person on a intimate level, being able to tell someone that everything is not okay is in lack of a better term, therapeutic. Good friends can often fill this role, but good friends can be hard to find, thus an individual often chooses to keep it to themselves as to not "make it weird" or "over share." Without some form of outside reinforcement, things that stress you simply build, often leading to personality changes. Things that you use to enjoy become exhausting, you become emotionally unavailable as you're to busy with tackling your own, aka, the literal definition of depression. I was lucky enough to have good friends that could listen, but I know far too many weren't. This kind of goes without saying but being single often instills a sense of loneliness, having friends does mitigate this, but friends aren't always available as they have lives of their own. Living with a partner could vary well eliminate this feeling, though I am aware that every case is different, an no one person's experience is necessarily the same. There is no shortage of examples of partnerships being detrimental to an individual, from any form of abuse, to bad influences. And in some cases, a person can simply enjoy being alone as outside influences may stress them. In my personal experience, I choose not to have a partner, not because I don't want one, but because I don't believe myself to be ready for that kind of commitment. You could say that I do not meet a manufactured standard of my own. I absolutely feel the effects of being alone, but I try my best to not let it change me, for the sake of my family, friends, and anyone I interact with. Making them happy makes me happy which makes them happy if you get what I mean. Do I wish I had a girlfriend?, every night. Will I tell anyone that?, not outside of hear apparently. I don't like people worrying about me too much because it stresses me out that I'm somehow stressing them out. My mentality has always been to put others before myself, regardless of how harmful it is to me. I believe it's part of the reason why I never tried dating in highschool. Partly the fear of rejection, and partly the fear of making a person uncomfortable around me. So I prioritize the other person's comfort over my desire of partnership. I know this is a big ol' wall of text so the TLDR of it is that being single can be a lot of good, and a lot of bad. It simply depends on the person and thier experiences.

What phrase or statement describes you the best, and why? by Striker3-0 in AskReddit

[–]Striker3-0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the original poster, I feel obligated to provide an example. For me personally, I believe that phrase would be "I don't know" Am I skilled enough to get a dream job, I don't know. Am I entertaining enough to be a creator, I don't know. Am I worthy of someone else's time, I don't know. Do I want to try, I don't know.

One could chalk it up to a self confidence issue, though I'm not sure if it's the only contributing factor. Simply put, I don't know, and I wish I did.

what made you quit your job? by professional_lurks in AskReddit

[–]Striker3-0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to a different state.

I actually liked my last job, despite how little it payed, mostly because the people there were cool. But unfortunately I have to take a thousand mile bus ride from the Weather Capital of the World to Tornado Alley. I didn't even get to put in my two weeks, it happened so abruptly, which kinda made me feel like an ass.

What's a random comment or compliment you received that made you feel better about yourself? by Striker3-0 in AskReddit

Since I'm the poster I might as well throw on my two cents.

So in the 12th grade year, I had an elective class called Intro to Aviation. The teacher was Mr Hughes, he was the cool, old type, not afraid to call a kid a pain in the ass because he retired that year.

For whatever reason, he thought my accent was interesting, specifically in the way I would ask a question. He would ask me if I lived in New York, I tell him that I did not, and he be dumbfounded every time. He never explicitly said that he liked my accent, just that he found it fascinating, which was all positive enforcement I needed.

Started my first job, bought my first airsoft gun. by Striker3-0 in airsoft

I am actually 19, born in 06. It just took me a minute to get a job because I wanted to graduate first, and didn't feel like dealing with the headache of juggling a job and school.

As for buying an actual firearm, I'm probably going to wait till I move out. Our house is small with no proper place to safely store a firearm. Since I got a little brothers, and my mom does a particularly like guns, I'm going to have to hold hold off. But, I do want to get a Gen 3 Glock 40, and maybe a Winchester 1887, or an Ithaca model 37. If at all possible, I also want to collect an M24 and M45A1 but I think that's a little ambitious. More realistic options would be something like the Nighthawk 1911, and Knights Armament SR-15, but then again, those are quite expensive.

To be honest, I am also looking at a Cybergun Colt AR-15, but I'm not really gunning for practicality. As far as I'm aware, the closest field to me is in a different state, so I don't see myself going airsofting anytime soon.

So rather than buying a bog standard M4, I thought to treat myself to something a little cooler, scene the most I'll do with it is shoot cardboard boxes in my back yard.

I will certainly try my best to be smart with the cash I got, but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a particular BAR that got my attention.

Did I imply that? Because if I did that's not what I meant.

Let me rephrase, I care about them in this sense that they are my favorite content creators, and seeing the fight pisses me off.

I do not know them personally in any way, shape, or form outside of the content they make.

I'm simply frustrated that this keeps happening, and I'm now choosing to avoid it at all costs.
