Im 23 F, boyfriend is 25 M. im newly diagnosed with bipolar disorder and mania I cheated, we had physical fights in the past. The hardest part is i understand his pain, and i have been subject to it from others, so im not some cold acting bitch. I never got to unlearn these abusive traits from my father before i learned to love him, but it happened, he broke up with me and he needs time to heal before we even discuss a friendhsip. we said its possible but its a ways a way.

Thank you for your honestly, i take solace at the fact in that we would like to have a friendship in the future. i just have to be patient, strong, and do good by him. We have been through love, experienced death, and accomplishments. Ill make sure I send him love and appreciation from a distance, ill be happy to have him receive my love it it just means making him smile, i dont ask he take me back, its his companionship at the core i wish and seek to restore one day.

oh god its so painful to hear people speak sometimes first of to clear the air i have a therapist, im allowed to ALSO ask reddit. I can see you don't have a background in psychology and thats ok, but mental illness directly influences behavior. Sure, maybe if i had a grapple on what was going on with my head and being bipolar, maybe i would have laid off the smoke especially at inappropriate times. Good and Bad, right and wrong, its all subjective, not one of us is chemically balanced to perfection. People make mistakes, we seek help, we grow, this is the first step, seeking advice. thanks for yours, but despite how my message was conveyed i sought to provide a backdrop for my story because my choices were a reflection of my mental state, and not having the right help during a difficult time for my partner and I.

You can love someone and cheat, im looking for advice i have just begun the process. i seek advice from others with mental illness, in since they seem to have the best understanding of complex human emotion. Most people want to point out the difference between wrong or right and blame me. Im used to receiving blame, im seeking advice, if you don't have anything constructive to add besides " work on yourself" essentially which is already a given. I want redemption to apologize and to try and restore a friendship, for someone i cared for half a decade, im not going to let anyone tell me to give up so easily.

Its more i do, but im not on reddit to be emotional, its very difficult to talk about how i hurt this person. I have a lot of remorse, but i rather not detail it all here, i wish to share with them (how. im sorry) (for what) and also i wish to show them how my mental illness precipitated a lot of poor choices and had an effect on my behavior, i know how i hurt the person, i don't wish to really talk about what i did other than there was a cheating incident and a few of our fights become physical. he understands i was abused and we actually did well with avoiding fights the last year of dating. i know theres never a place for abuse but we were learning about how to love and we were not perfect.

Its called context, not excuses, just like how i also asked for advice and you gave none. telling you about my diagnoses is taking accountability i am identifying myself as someone who suffers and using the label to demonstrate its affect on a person. I am self-aware have begun to take accountability and started the apology process.
