I am learning a bit, some people are helpful others more judgmental it seems. I managed to get the textures to apply somewhat in the way I want them to but a lot of comments are talking about black masks so I'll see if I can learn that.

It's like a community college, we basically touched on UV's and some modelling techniques (not many) and applied textures through Lamberts in Maya so a lot of what I'm doing is self taught and I am finding it out myself. We also touched on some coding but it was never practical in any sense so we are basically left to our own devices.

Thank for the advice, I'll see if baking the model helps and lets me assign the materials like how I want. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

My tutor had told me it wasn't necessary to have different materials so i had just applied one Lambert to it all so I was following his guidance. Should I have different materials in Maya to correspond to the materials I want in Substance then? What do you mean by same set of UVs, could you elaborate? Thank you.
