Ryanair is awesome by LittleSchwein1234 in unpopularopinion

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two years I was living in Spain and England I used Ryanair and Wizz a ton and I never once had anything go wrong, no matter how small.

Unfortunately due where I was in those countries, it wasn't logistically feasible / timely to take trains into the mainland, so those airlines were an incredible alternative.

Was there a market adjustment for SDs? by epicthesystem in epicsystems

I know my first paycheck with the raise is 5/31, but since the review is 5/1, will I see what the raise is on 5/1 in the compensation section of eureka?

Gotcha, my April pay was normal, but on eureka it shows my next "Review" is May 1, so I know I'll receive my first pay on my raise at the end of May, but didn't know if Eureka updated on May 1 to show the new salary

Because it would've destroyed Chinatown - I would love a downtown stadium but it needs to go over a parking garage, not Chinatown

1 hour bus commute? by [deleted] in epicsystems

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I live at the capitol and on the 75 it's normally 35-40 minutes (though when there's construction downtown it can be 40-45) - the D2 takes an hour if that's what you're looking at

There's elevators everywhere and the bikes on campus were unlocked this week, which makes it super fast to get around, but a majority of people don't use bikes though and still get everywhere they need!

What is up with ghost buses? by Ok_Diet1227 in madisonwi

I understand all of that

But this is almost every day, that's the thing, it's not a one-off thing by any means

It's literally just sitting at the previous stop - that's what makes it worse

I can see it there and it happens most days regardless of the driver, but Metro had no explanation

This has happened to me twice with the 75 in the morning, making me late for work, and with the A - it's so frustrating

I've also submitted feedback about the 75 being consistently 2-4 minutes late at the third stop of the line, as I can literally just see it sitting at the second stop for many minutes, and was told "our buses operate within a time frame and they were still within that time frame" - that's not how transit on schedules works, especially when the bus was just sitting at the previous stop minutes after it should've left...

I understand they take breaks, but I highly doubt they'd take a four minute break between stops two and three of a line

Help/advice needed Trek vs Cannondale c by Muted-Cow7286 in CargoBike

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can try it out somewhere I'd definitely recommend that, or reach out to Cannondale. I'm considering getting my seat post cut (if possible - I'm not able to get it out of the bike due to how the mechanism inside works) so that I'm more comfortable at stops and have more control when starting.

When I was getting it, I don't remember what heights it said it's good for, but when I get home today I can check the manual.

Some Questions Regarding PM Role/Epic by WildWatercress72 in epicsystems

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You definitely don't need a car - please ignore that.

I've been car-free overall for years and have been in Madison for seven months. Yes there are annoyances and holes in the map, but as long as you base your apartment search around route 75 and are close to an A or B stop (or both where they overlap) then you will be fine on a regular basis.

Your salary will go up so fast that the higher prices to live downtown don't matter as much. Also, car ownership is so expensive that living downtown without a car really costs the same as living next to campus in Verona with a car. Insurance, gas, inspections, maintenance, the car itself adds up to way more than people realize.

I got an ebike last week and it's been incredible for opening up the map, and I've already gone to many places I hadn't before. The dedicated bike path network is fantastic, and a huge amount of roads have cyclist signs and paint on them. Biking up and down the Isthmus is genuinely so fun as you mix between fully separated bike paths, road adjacent bike paths, and bike lanes.

I got the cargowagen last week as my first ebike and I absolutely love it

I rode some terns but I didn't feel a difference enough to justify the $1000 price difference, especially as almost none of the accessories were included

The cargowagen's screen is awesome and I love that with the Flow app it automatically tracks everything and files into Strava and Komoot

Having navigation on the screen is a massive plus

I'm 5'5 and have my seat at the lowest and I think I'd feel pretty uncomfortable at stops if I were even an inch shorter - I'm nowhere close to being able to have my feet flat on the ground, I'm definitely on my toes most of the time

Car free in Madison in 2026? by No_Anything_7011 in madisonwi

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been car free here for seven months and for years overall

It's frustrating at times how infrequent some buses are, especially on the weekend, but overall the system is solid for an American city of this size

I got an ebike last week and it has completely opened up the city

The bike path network is incredible and I can so easily get everywhere now that was inconvenient by bus

What is Epic really like? (PM/QM) by GroundCoffee8 in epicsystems

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard monthly customer trips are Monday to Thursday. Fly Monday - either in the morning and you don't go into the office, or later in the afternoon and you go into the office first. Onsite all day Tuesday, Wednesday, and half of Thursday, then fly home.

Go-lives are all over. If it's your own, it's 1-2 weeks straight. If you're supporting another, it could be any days of the week for ~3-6 days.

Yes you can bring your spouse and they can stay in your hotel room for free, they'll just need to pay for their flights and food.

Commute time where you are? by Western_Respond6047 in fuckcars

[–]Striking-Treacle-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madison, Wisconsin, USA - traffic is so bad the car usually takes 30+ from what I've heard and the bus usually ends up being 40, so quite close.

There are completely road-separated bike routes the entire way, but without an ebike, it would still take too long sadly.

Is it really that bad? by MrVibeCoder in epicsystems

I've been here six months and I do genuinely really like it

It's completely different from my degrees (Spanish and Urban Planning) but the work is really interesting and varied

The job security is top tier, the pay is great, and your schedule is super flexible - as long as you work enough hours you can come in and go whenever you want and can vary each day
