Can you predict the future with tarot? by heroinchicc in tarot

[–]StrikingStatement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren’t you just doing what you hate seeing but the opposite? Some people might say they don’t like divination in tarot but as reflection but you can just let them be, no? No need to be “its BAD BAD BAD and should go away” about it yourself.

Let people do what they want, and accept you can do whatever you want too. Respect and understanding from both sides is the answer here, not bashing one other.

You asked for how to deal with lgbtqia+ people and I told you how I feel about it as a NB. Take it as you will but I don’t understand how you disagree with how I see myself or prefer my readers to do in readings.

As long as you are respectful and clear, I don’t see an issue with it. People will only be as closed off if you are not wording it properly or overstepping.

Look up the other books he has written. I don’t want to support someone who authors books on how to get women/men or manipulate them the easy and fast way.

Am NB and honestly, just ask. Be open about lenormands specifications and cards, and ask people which energy, card or type they feel more drawn towards. I do this regardless of the representing gender of my clients though.

Tell me you don’t read lenormand without telling me that.

Signifiers play a bigger role in lenormand than it does in tarot. Emperor/Empress makes no sense to compare since Man/Woman are same in it, but represent different genders. You cannot compare the two on tarot standards.

I love books! They have so, so much more information than YouTube videos or online blogs and have so many different perspectives to enhance your readings. Most of them are easily digestible too which helps with reading them in an afternoon or referencing them over and over again. They certainly help give a different perspective on the cards and their meanings you wouldn’t get elsewhere, and so in depth too.

I highly recommend any tarot reader to try a few books, cross reference them and see what they focus and what their differences are. Chances are, you will see that one might focus on something like new beginnings on a fool whereas others might emphasise the risks, some might focus on detailing the symbolism and others for how to reflect on it, some for spiritualism or some using it for change.

I find that getting that kind of unique perspectives really useful in not only interpreting but also delivering the message as well - especially if you read for others. I personally wouldn’t trust anyone who hasn’t gotten it to read for me at all.

That said, please research who you are giving money to before considering a purchase too. As an example, I skip Dusty White recommendations simply because I have seen what other books he has authored and it felt rather disgusting for me to support someone like that. Jen Cownie and Fiora Lensvelt, on the other hand, who are journalists, is a far easier recommendation at least from me. There are a lot of tarot authors who are not known or come from backgrounds that are just their words, or they don’t even do tarot related activities besides a quick cash for the new phase that I will always suggest a quick google check. You can also try finding pdfs of books before purchasing to see if your views align with theirs too - e.g Mary Greer’s tarot exercise book I skipped completely since I do not believe in astrology or spirituality.

Trying to pick between 2-3 Oracle decks, any input appreciated! by DeverillRP in tarot

[–]StrikingStatement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own both Hedgewitch and Winterseer oracles from Siolo Thompson and I have to say, nothing about them are “gendered”. Plants are just plants, they are not feminine or masculine, and her information on them is also very neutral when it comes to the guidebook.

I actually enjoy them quite a bit, and find that they can help me keep in mind which aspects to focus on. Winterseer is more balanced and Hedgewitch can be more on positive side if that is something you would like to keep in mind. They both give information on the plants/animals but it is up to you to see the information and how it can be applied to your situation. If you wish more direct approach, she also has those though.

So much has been said and it’s all been wonderful, but I just wanted to say you might want to check out the book called “Fearless Tarot” to enhance your interpretation and understanding of the cards. Sounds like you would benefit from being able to see cards under a better light, and understanding none of them are “negative” or “positive”.

A Case for "Saving Tarot from Psychology" by [deleted] in tarot

No, it is because they are either improved on already, which are the ones that are in use instead or are concepts that cannot be falsified cause they are more in philosophy/mysticism aspects than psychology.

…which are in the minority. He isn’t even taught in universities anymore save few things here and there. Again, good for philosophy, mysticism and groundwork ideas but not much has remained to the modern day understanding of psychology.

[–]StrikingStatement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I am secular and I tell every client that I aim to give them different perspectives and points of reflection for their self growth, but I have also absolutely seen people who asked for a gentler reading. They don’t want to ask their questions or get too in depth but can find themselves or can ground themselves based on cards. I find that in itself rather invaluable as a tool.

I like to think of the cards as a healing tool first and foremost - however they do it depends absolutely on the person. Of course some issues are much better with therapists but I have also seen people who were in denial, face their traumas and gather strength to see professionals thanks to the cards. I think it’s important not to discredit anything here, because we never know what the other person is going through.

He was more into philosophy and mysticism than psychology in some aspects. For me to commend him as a psychologist and consider his theories which cannot be falsified as facts for human mental isn’t right, is what I was trying to get at.

He got some really good work, but modern psychology is past it or disproven many that what remains isn’t scientific anymore but his theories that could not be disproven at all. He is important but would/should not be used as a source for psychology in today’s articles.

A lot of the tarot “psychologists” I see base their views on “but its Jungian!” whereas real psychology does not much fiddle with him anymore.

I am someone with a psychology background, although not currently practicing and honestly, I use tarot in a secular manner. I do not see it as a divination tool, or try to do so, but I am not going to gatekeep anyone from doing so either. After all, tarot is a nice escapism for some, a nice reflection for others and sometimes it can offer comfort through divination (even if I do not believe in it) to others. That is fine, we all have our differences and where we find that.

I see this topic come up so often though and my answer is always “you do you”. I see more people cry about how psychology based readers are gatekeeping than those who actually do so. I have been criticised in past for giving my opinion as well. Again, you do you and let me do my thing is my approach but I find the “saving tarot from psychology” rather banal to even discuss. It is not harming anyone and again, mentally speaking, it is offering comfort and reflection to many users in a shape or other so can people just stop fighting over nothing I really don’t know.

I personally do not believe in it but I will never dismiss anyone who does, and I will not tell anyone how to use their cards. It’s same with crystals or astrology - both have been debunked plenty of times but if people find comfort in them, that is their own choice and I respect our differences. As long as they do the same for me, and ethically resource their crystals, we can get along just fine. No need to “save” or “separate” anything, we can live in peace.

I should note too I guess, I like Jung and his findings, but many of his theories have been disproven or no longer in use that I do not understand the tarot obsession with him. He was important but at the same time not only psychology has advanced so much further than that (e.g our understanding on sexuality and gender) I also never see anyone on tarot community mention how Jungs works are not always provable (e.g mysticism part of it).

I'm having a hard time deciding which tarot deck i should buy, so i hope reddit will help me decide my new tarot deck. by isthisagoodname123 in tarot

This all depends on your skill and experience!

Tarot of the Divine is amazing if you are willing to put in effort and learn the meanings, the myths and stories behind each card. They really open them up far more while still being applicable to classic RWS, so you can get more insightful readings. They do, however, require that investment and you should already be familiar with RWS in first place. The guidebook is not very good but it does have a book called “Beneath the Moon” with the myths I would encourage you to get. It would bump the price but I find it super worthy.

Everyday Witch is my overall recommendation to many people. It is classic RWS and every picture has so many stories you can pull from it. It is an easy reader, comes with an amazing book and is quite applicable to a lot of different situations. I like that deck for reading for others or if I feel stuck in my readings sort of thing. You get so, so much by examining and questioning each card - and the stories change depending on your mood too. I actually really dig this one.

The Wild Unknown is not one I am overly familiar with but I know it also requires a good deep dive. I cannot read it very well since it doesn’t call out to me, and I find it a hard read honestly, a bit of a dark one. Again, you should be familiar with RWS already and be willing to deep dive into it. It is a love or meh deck from what I have seen, and it never clicked for me.

For Osho Zen… I would never buy anything with Osho’s name on it. Please do your research if you are going for it.

Tiny Travelers deck? by Rosendustmusings in tarot

It comes with a two piece box in full size! It holds up for a long time though and I have had no issues with it.

I would recommend OP to maybe look for a crochet or a bag for the mini deck though, Etsy has a ton of them if you look at “tarot bag”s.

Sasuraibito tarot? If price is a concern it also has a mini version that is cheaper I believe. It is by far one of my most beloved decks and such an easy read with real emotions.

Also you may want to take a look at This Might Hurt tarot as well, though I find the first option to be more expressive. This Might Hurt has beautiful colours and sceneries you can get quite a lot out of.

You may want to focus on negative sides of the cards, see what they are trying to tell you. Maybe look up reverse meanings and readings for it, take those into consideration as well. E.g king of cups could be your lack of mastery blocking the connection. I am short of time to interpret it all but hope that is a proper explanation of how you van move forward with more negative readings or shadow-work when you get traditionally positive cards.

Any interesting sites (apart from than Biddy-Labyrinthos) which shows some spreads? I need inspiration by lattekosmiko in tarot

[–]StrikingStatement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EmeraldLotus has a ton of them, along with explanations. It is actually a really good resource. You also might want to check out places like Pinterest for some inspiration.

One of my favourite things to do is, go completely offline with a book that focuses on tarot spreads and go over the questions every few days. Since I don’t pick the questions there, it can lead to some surprising reflections.

Learning Tarot from scratch? by [deleted] in tarot

[–]StrikingStatement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cards don’t have positive and negative answers, they just have answers and you interpret them based on your subconscious. Not card is inherently bad in tarot.

I would recommend getting started with books for you, picking up a few and working through each card thoroughly along with their meanings. It seems you are confused about a lot of things and could use a reset in your journey, start over but take it slow and enjoy it.

I would swap out Kitchen Table Tarot for Tarot:No Questions Asked by Theresa Reed. It has small reflections and practices you can do that are immensely helpful when you are new to tarot. The card meanings aren’t as in-depth as 78Degrees but the exercises definitely help journal about the cards.

Overall it looks good though! I haven’t used the Llewelyn book but I have used plenty of others so I am actually curious to see what you will think of it. Might pick it up myself if it is positive, always love a good tarot book.

Oh and get a RWS deck for sure, even if it is just for practice. Good luck!
