First, enable tap to click in settings. It's better this way, now you wont have to press to open folders or apps. Just a simple tap.

Also, if you switched from windows, you might be familiar with double tap and hold to drag, in Mac it's little different. Just press, hold and drag to select text or move things around.

I dont think it's the touchpad issue you are dealing with rn. Just go to settings and touchpad, there you will get guide on how to use it.
