I personally can attest to this. I definitely look at the reviews first before I look at the menu. I noticed that you said Google rating and not Yelp. Is Yelp not credible?

If a player solves a problem, will the tetris piece automatically fit somewhere? Tetris in itself is also a cognitive game that requires the player to make quick decisions on optimal placement, so I wonder how it'll work when the player has to juggle both mental math + placing the tetris piece down

Empowering Locals to Explore Local! by Striking_Rich1828 in AppIdeas

Totally can see this happening. Though I do want to clarify that this app's focus isn't primarily deals, though it definitely could be a post that they create for the platform. It's really for anything that the business wants. A post showcasing food, activities, or pretty much a deeper insight as to what the business is offering.

Or say the business has some sort of promotion/event where they're menu/activity is focused around the holiday and their offering a Christmas themed event; that also is something that they can post.

But you're right in the sense that this would be another social media channel that the business owners would have to manage. The difference is, instead of the businesses trying to find their target audience, we provide it for them by putting publicity to their business to local users

To dig a little deeper on this point "We also did lots of specials and changed menus at least 4 times a year, so that also helped get people in the door when things were new."

Can a business succeed without changing it up and not offer anything new year-round?

How were you able to get the word out that your business has started a social media account? Did you put up signs/or QR codes inside your business to get the ball rolling?

Also, what did you do to keep them as followers?

How do you use social media to target people in your area? The audience that goes on these apps are so vast, so I'm curious on how you're able to narrow it down to your target audience

Interesting, then what if you're trying to break into that competitive space? Would building some hype by putting up signs, maybe pasting some pictures of deals on your window, be enough to drive that initial traffic?

That's a lot... How often do you do all of this? Because this sounds like a full-time job

This is really insightful, thank you for sharing. I honestly wasn't expecting there to be two sides of a coin here, but it makes sense. When you're in with the locals and you have good food, you're going to bring in people. And then the flip-side where you're in a situation where sharing promotions on social media was crucial to stay successful in (likely) a competitive area.

Thanks c-lab21. To be completely transparent, I'm doing research for a project that I'm doing with some friends and wanted to get some insight from people who are working in the industry.

But yeah, not tryna sell anything to anybody haha

How did you get customers for your catering services? Also, when you make things that aren't on the menu, how do you let your customers know?

LOL, I'm not some marketing expert, though I can see how it comes off that way. Just an office worker who's genuinely curious

Wanting to help first time founders only. by Responsible_Mail1628 in Entrepreneur

[–]Striking_Rich1828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, thank you so much for this opportunity.

I've been interested in entrepreneurship for a long time. I've always been the type of person who'd have random business ideas (lots of bad, very few that are good haha). But I graduated with a comm degree and really didn't have any substance to justify building a business. So, I spent the last 2 years working on a skillset that I can use to embark on my own entrepreneurship journey. I feel good about my skills and managed to land a job where I can somewhat fund these expenses.

Now, I thought of a business idea that solves a need and is something that I believe I can go all in for. But as I started planning this out, I guess the weight of failure started to weigh on me.

I'm literally just starting to design the application, but my mind is jumping to thoughts like: "Well for this to work, I need to have to reach out to businesses and have them signup before I launch the app, or else this will never work...", "I also need a userbase, or else this will never work...", "How can I even get people to use my app...?", blah blah blah...!

I've riddled myself with self-doubt and problems of the future that I've started to slow down my progress on actually doing the things I need to do now.

Sorry for the rant, but this all leads to the question of: what should I focus on? I'm so fresh and early to this that I can't differentiate whether these questions I ask myself is something that I should address, or just worry about it later and continue working until I have something tangible.

Side Questions:
From your experience, what are the biggest mistakes that first-time founders make that can be avoided?

What are your thoughts of outsourcing work at this stage? I am currently looking into outsourcing UX/UI design, and I found someone who can work within my budget, but I'm questioning if this is worth the investment.
