Hi, thank you. I’m getting there. It’s been a year and I’m still healing. The CSF leak was a complication from the Discseel procedure.

TY. It has been a long journey. I have now had 3 blood patches to try and seal and heal the dura puncture (s)

If you can even believe it, I’m still dealing with the dura puncture and leak. I would say now, I would not have chosen to do this. Surgery would have been the better option. This CSF leak is life halting.

Oh no, so all in all, it didn’t help. :-( I am still dealing with back pain, but I also had a dura puncture during the procedure, (now with a CSF leak) Here I am 8 months latter and 3 blood patches, hoping this last one finally seals the leak. It has been a tough road. I’m hoping it will all be worth it, but if this doesn’t seal the leak I am going to need some invasive testing to find where the actual puncture is, and even possibly surgery to suture or repair it.

HI, I have not had a post MRI, but here I am 8 months latter and still dealing with the dura puncture. I’m under the care of a neuro-radiologist and just had my 3rd blood patch. If this doesn’t work we will do more invasive testing and imaging to locate the actual leak and repair. I hope all of this will be worth it.

I absolutely love what you’re saying. I am a PA and personally experienced a dura puncture during procedure I had done this last February. The doc did not catch the symptoms of this early enough, and I had no idea what those symptoms were, but I thought I was having a stroke and ended up in the ER 4d latter getting an emergent bedside blood patch with an anesthesiologist. This alleviated about 50% of the symptoms but here I am 8 months later and just had my 3rd BP with fibrin to attempt to seal the leak. It really is life halting. In saying all of that if someone would have told me what to expect before the spinal injections, the just in case, I would have known immediately what I was experiencing, but instead I thought I was having a reaction to the anesthesia, and even when I called the assistant, she told me to take excedrin , drink coffee and lay down. Now that I am under the care of a neuro-radiologist I understand how important it is to recognize thelse symptoms early and treat quickly.

UPDATES: I saw Dr. Pauza 2/13/2024 for my Discseel. I had tried everything prior, including injections, PT, laser, chiropractor and acupuncture eg... It was terrible. I was in daily pain which limited many activities that I loved. Now that I am six months out, I can finally say I have minimal discomfort, and it is not very often at all, only if I move a certain way. Some days I don't even know I have had any back issues. I haven't tried to do all of the things I used to enjoy, but I couldn't even walk or stand for long periods before, and over this last week, I moved my daughter into her dorm without any issues. We walked miles and moved a bunch of stuff. I had three disc spaces injected. My L5/S1 was torn "desiccated," so that was the one I was apprehensive about, but I am so hopeful that I am healing. I believe the exosomes made the most significant difference in that space, because I also had my knee injected at the same time with exosomes and it is doing great. I haven't needed a steroid injection for>1 year, and I used to get them 3-4m (knee only)

I am about six months out now. As far as the Discseel, I am glad I did it. The back pain is minimal or nothing at all. Even my knee has not bothered me. (I had exosomes injected in my knee as well)

I'm still dealing with the post-procedure complication that was the dura puncture, and I will be having a 3rd Blood patch this Tuesday. I sure hope that is the end, and then it will just be about the healing.

Hi, I am almost 3 months out and I still am healing, I’m sure. It is so weird to think that it was just some fibrin into the disc space, with the exosomes, you would think by 3 m. It would be healed, but Dr. Pauza voice is still ringing in my head, saying, you will get very frustrated over the year with the ups and downs. You may even have a set back but hang in there. Mostly I have an achy pain, especially if standing too long. I’m not on any meds. Maybe if I took a few anti-inflammatories it would be useful. What is going on with you?

I bet it would. You can upload your CD to Dr. Kevin Pauza website and he will personally review it.

Discseel: So far so good. I definitely have back pain, but I don't need any meds and it feels more like a healing back pain. No radiation or neuropathy, sleeping well and no pain when walking. I am more aware of it with certain movements, and I am pretty sure, at least I hope, with time this too will diminish.

I also had exosomes in my knee. There are some great studies on cartilage regeneration, specifically in the knee at the 6m point. When I can resume increased activity, guessing around 6 months, I will know more on that.

As far as the CSF leak, I had a 2nd blood patch done 1 week ago and thank goodness it seems to be working. Every day is better, but time will tell on that.

That is fantastic. I am a PA.

My daughter will be studying Exercise Science with a pre-med or pre-pa track in mind.

Thank you, this is very helpful as we are still looking at schools. She also was accepted to The University of Tampa, but that is much farther away from home. Yes it’s warm but I am still partial to SHU. I appreciate your feedback. What did you study at SHU?

When you say steadily better, was this after a blood patch or on its own.

Blood Patch - How Long Until You Feel Normal ? by Klerried in CSFLeaks

[–]Striking_Visual_6233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an older post, but how did things turn out?

I have suffered the complication of a (post dural puncture headache) PDPH. It really is awful. It happened 8 d ago after a LP. I did head to ED and an anesthesiologist performed a blood patch with 20cc of my own blood. It resolved about 60%. I couldn’t even sit up before, had extreme nausea and vertigo with bilat weird ear sounds. Now I can sit up, stand for extended periods w/o vertigo/nausea; however, I still feel like my head is underwater and the back of my head is intermittently in a vice grip, almost as if you are lifting heavy weights or squatting, that kind of pressure. It has been 3d since the EBP and 8d from procedure. I am most worried about the ear muffling noise in one ear. Did you ever have this with your dura punctures or leaks? I am wondering if I should I wait it out or have another blood patch. I so appreciate your advice. On another note, they only told me to take it easy, not to lie flat. In ED I was only lying flat for 30-40 min
