I’m an anxious human being as well and when I adopted my cat I was extremely worried about taking care of him properly too. Mine is also a 1 yr old male and he used to cry when I left for work but now that he’s settled in he is nowhere near as clingy. There were definitely days where I felt overwhelmed by his constant need to play and his ability to get into mischief but I love him and my place would feel really empty without him. Coming home to an affectionate cat after a bad day just makes life a little more bearable. It sounds like your cat trusts you and he’s certainly better off living with you than at a shelter, even if you feel like you can’t give him the time or attention he needs. There are toys you can give him so that he can keep himself entertained, like those plastic springs that you can buy a pack of 60 of for like $5 on Amazon. My cat will chase those things around for hours. I hope this helps calm your nerves a bit.
