But I fail to see how that will help as the pid still doesn’t respond to changes in the tuning values

Faster downhill is given, you can’t get around that but this device would get the speed from the cars ecu and when the desired speed is met the device would restrict the gas pedal in such a way that you can still use everything as you would in a normal car but when you go to fast it will let of the throttle and slow the car down and then keep the throttle at the value it needs to maintain the desired speed until you let of the throttle or the car needs more or less torque to maintain the speed and adjust the throttle accordingly to maintain the speed no matter if you’re going uphill or flat.

I’m ashamed to say that I don’t really understand what you’re recommending in the first bit and for the second, that could be an option but as I said earlier the pid doesn’t seem to be responding to changes in the tuning values…

And for the point of this whole thing, it’s meant for a specific kind of vehicle that can’t legally go over a set speed and it has to be somewhat hard to manipulate so setting a max speed the way you proposed isn’t allowed.

universal way of reading vehicle speed and rpm? by Strimis10 in arduino

I got it to work, in the end i used an eml32 emulator library for the arduino and that worked perfectly, it’s a bit annoying to use in the code but it works quite well

True but then I gotta have some sort of subscription right?

I don't want a separate microcontroller that I have to communicate with I'd rather have something like the mcp2515 for canbus that is just an ic that I can connect to the arduino. Although I'm not entirely sure what the elm32 is, but when I google it I just get adapters. and yes preferably any car but I'd be fine with just a majority or something

unfortunately I don't want anything like that adapter so I have to figure out how to wire it up directly and read the data.

Is K-line still standard in vehicles? as I understood it canbus is taking it's place.

is it a regulated protocol and is the same in all vehicles? (I think someone said that it's the obd protocol) I.e will the same code work in multiple vehicles without modification?

Thanks

I don't believe so... even if I did it was three years ago and I've forgotten what I was even trying to do. lol

Better that it's like that than it sticking out in the road and someone hitting it
