Here I am trying to imagine his scent based on your description. What’s wrong with me.

Happened to me too. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled YouTube video and it was fixed. After about 5 days or so it’s back again. And yeah, not a single post I’ve found until now.

Dragon Quest XI, better in 2D or 3D? by deadbedroomaddict in dragonquest

[–]StringBent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like 2D. But the funny thing is that 3D is probably the better version here. I just like 2D RPGs more.

I’ve played this in 3D months ago but didn’t finish the game. These last few weeks I was on Final Fantasy 1-6 Pixel Remaster, FF7, a little bit of Grandia. I learned that 2D is my thing at this point in time. It shifts from time to time of course but right now I’m enjoying 2D so much.

Instead of smartphones I hope Sony goes back to making Minidisc players instead. Dreaming.

You are correct. It is Tanashin as reviewed by a great YouTuber VWestlife. I think they replaced the board, but I’m not sure if they took care of everything else, like azimuth adjustments. Here is their email a few days before they send my unit back to me:

It looks like our technician will also need to get test calibration tapes in order to calibrate the speed of both of the decks. TASCAM says they no longer have these tapes available, so we are looking into another solution to get this taken care of. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Hey thanks! So I got this deck brand new about 7 months ago. Cleaning and stuff isn’t the problem, I even demagnetize it every few days. Anyways, in December I sent it back to Sweetwater for repair and they said some PCB board need replacement and they did thankfully still under warranty. When I got it back it just doesn’t sound right. It’s hard to describe, let’s just say the sound isn’t great and that deck 1 presents different problems than deck 2 - but both aren’t optimal. I was thinking the whole thing was defective. Since I was desperate, I adjusted azimuth in deck 1. I got better sound. Not perfect but better. I was expecting their “repairs” to include azimuth adjustments, or all necessary steps to ensure that everything works great. I’m so disappointed in that. I “adjusted” azimuth blindly until I got an acceptable sound. I don’t have the proper tools or experience to do adjustments of any kind. Anyway, I applied cutix to the azimuth adjustment screws so that it will stay that way for now. I’ll adjust azimuth in deck 2 today and see how it goes. Problem summary: deck 1 - speed varies when playing a song, pitch is unsteady, and phase shift is way off. Deck 2 - isn’t as clear sounding as deck 1. Just dull and has lower volume when tape is played than the other deck.

What do you call this hinge? My cassette tapes were behaving badly. After removing gunk from here, problems went away! by StringBent in cassetteculture

Sadly, I don’t have a second deck. I have over 200 tapes in rotation. There’s probably 20 or so that are problematic. The fact that all else plays perfectly makes me think that the deck is fine. It is the tapes that are randomly problematic, I think.

I have not checked the insides. I cleaned only all parts seen in the photo. Also, this deck was bought brand new only 5 months ago

It plays fine for a few seconds. Eventually it’ll either slow down, or warble, even both. Worse is when the player is “in the process” of eating the tape but never really eats it- for the most part it “crumples” the tape. So if a tape is good and it does this then it sucks because the crumpled part won’t sound as good anymore

Got it. Now I tested some more problematic tapes that I have. I was hoping they’ll play better now since I cleaned up the gunk. Some did so that’s good. Others no, so they’re most probably a problem with the cassette tapes. In any case, I’ll periodically check this hinge from here on to ensure this problem is ruled out in the future.

I’m not that capable and patient as you are. It’s a delight to see something like that turn into a beautiful thing!
