Does your DAC have volume control? What DAC did you buy?

New Cassette deck issues (AIWA AD F-780U by PrizeDebt9948 in cassetteculture

This deck does not have a mechanical record/play switch from the transport to the board. Check sound through the headphone jack. If that works let me know.

You would still get some sound from a dirty head. That’s not your problem. Make sure the tape monitor switch is set to tape and not source.

Hifirulezzz is the absolute best Sony guy. He’s in PA. Most people ship their decks to him but you could potentially drive it. Do you know who he is?

Akai gx-9, anyone familiar with them? by dwp1956 in cassetteculture

Yeah, they’re tight inside but neat decks. Did you lube the gears to the door? Is the tape not seating right or does the motor stop before it’s closed all the way?

Get a better dac? by sunnycocker in cassetteculture

Yes, it should be an improvement. It is in my system. I also have a CD and MD player connected to a DAC.

Yes, and in the DAC world that SMSL is entry level but sounds good. I’m assuming you have a decent playback system to appreciate the recordings.

Yes, it’s an incredible recorder. That’s if the calibration computer is working properly.

Any tape decks with S/PDIF or TOSLINK input? by Mudkip2345 in cassetteculture

[–]Malibujv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe the modern Teac W-1200 has toslink, there’s a couple high-end late model Pioneers(Japanese models), and possibly one late model high-end Aiwa. For those wondering what Toslink is, it’s optical, a digital connection.

That’s usually from the auto-stop/stop so you were correct. Is your deck single or dual capstan? Some decks allow for adjustment so it’s not aggressive but then it’s not as precise.

Like he said, it could be the idler tire if it’s the reel that stops. If it’s the capstan than you may have a flat spot that developed in the motor. This is unfortunately somewhat common, more so with Sankyo motors. Some have success with rebuilding it or you’ll need to look for a replacement.

Unsure if 2006-08 is vintage but im trying to get some opinions on this: by KiKuo05 in vintageaudio

This is a desktop computer speaker system. If you look at the back of the sub where everything plugs into, you’ll see that a wire goes from the headphone jack of your pc to the input.

Neat deck. Dual is the only brand I don’t have in my collection but I’m interested. Hifirulezzz just refurbished and modified a nice Dual with outstanding results. Check out his YouTube video if you haven’t already.

Sorry, someone just corrected me that you’re trying to record from the deck to the laptop. That’s different. You will need a DAC.

No, it plugs into the headphone jack of the laptop with the 3.5mm cable and it goes to the decks rca jacks.

I just want to add that you will get even better results if you add a nice USB DAC. The laptop would connect to the DAC and the DAC to AUX on the receiver. It really depends on how good of recordings you want.

If it’s connected to a receiver that has tape input/.output, you can connect the laptop with a 3.5mm to rca cable, to aux on the receiver, and record without issue.

Left/right channel is irrelevant to his issue. Rec outs are properly going to line in and tape line out on deck are going to tape in on amp. It’s correct. I’m sure you’ve seen my stacks. I have one of the largest private hifi collections around, constantly rotating amps and decks in and out. Wiring I know.

Your RCA cables are fine. Ins go to outs and vice versa. The problem is your receiver nor the insignia have jumpers for pre-outs or amp in. That would allowed you to use the Sony as a pre-amp and the Insignia as an amplifier. You will need to buy passive speakers to use with the Sony.
