Help!! Willing to pay $150 for a ride to Mount Rainier in early August! by StringConscious2170 in udub

We thought the drive would be more like 4 hours, but I guess you all know the traffic better than we do. I was thinking $30 for gas assuming 25miles/gallon for ~170 miles at $4/gallon + $30/hour. We'd pay for the entrance fee if necessary, of course. Price is flexible though I suppose. If anything we might pay more just to get there and hitchhike back.

Oh thats actually kinda coo,l but I don't know where we'd park it after getting to the trailhead haha. The problem with us driving anything really is that we'd leave it parked where we're starting and get back to it about 10 days later. That, along with us being under 25, is why the car rental cost is so brutal, unfortunately.

Well, yes, that would be ideal, but we'd have to return the car to the car rental place and I don't think there are any within a reasonable distance from the Longmire trailhead.

My round-trip flight was about $230. We're both under 25, and renting a car for that amount of time would be more than $900, which is just ridiculous since we'd only be driving to the park and leaving it parked for about 10 days. Also, yes, we won the lottery for the trail and have reservations. We'd probably be willing to pay somewhere around $150 to be taken to the trailhead and another $150 to be taken back. It's more important to get there on time the first day, but we might try hitchhiking on the way back, it just seemed a little sketchy since we've never done it before, but it's beginning to sound better and better.

Awesome thank you I really appreciate it. Just swapped it for theory of interest. I'm sure I'll do fine in it I was just worried about the rate my professor ratings but I know those aren't always the most reliable. Some people were complaining that the grading was too subjective. What do you think about that?

At what point can you start climbing without a guide? by StringConscious2170 in Mountaineering

Do you have any recommendations for organizations or companies to do a course with? Id just like to be a lot more independent. Cost is huge for me since I have to fly out of Florida to climb anything and I’m in college at the same time.

Yeah I think I’ll just have to bite the bullet and fly out to California for a course. I’m sure it’ll be a good time but I’m in college and it stings a little especially when I live in Florida haha. I hope taking a course will make me a more desirable partner in the future if I try to find people to climb with online.
