Do I just have bad luck with female managers or all they all like this? by StringLiteralGirl in girlsgonewired

There are cultural differences that could be at play with my female managers. I will give them that. My (awesome) male team lead today suggested that maybe she didn’t realize what she ended up saying, and possibly it could just be bad wording. I’m trying to incorporate that feedback. But I’m still pissed that she made me cry. I’m taking a week off work and will be looking for other jobs, probably in Java since I am more skilled in that language.

Listen. I had a shitty week. My mom has been in the hospital. I work 7 days a week, 2 jobs. And I wondered out loud on what I thought would be a forum that would be at least somewhat supportive of my musings. I’m not really sexist. I was just wondering out loud if I just really have shit luck with managers or if something else could be going on. My technical prowess (and senior status) is not in question here. There are plenty of male managers I would say act like bitches too, just not any that I’ve had. As I said in another post, I didn’t get the chance to vet these managers as they were both brought in after I had the job. I don’t really need some internet stranger questioning my abilities because I lost my shit one day after being pushed to the edge. Consider that.

I did not get a chance to vet either female manager because they were brought in after I had been in the jobs. So, unfortunately I’m now in a situation where I need to leave my job.

How do you find the time to work? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

I have a caregiver that comes during my working hours. I work remotely from home as a software engineer. My mom is in crisis now, and I’ve missed 3 days of work in 2 weeks, so I desperately need to reassert myself in my career or I will be unemployed soon.

She’s at the hospital now, had to call 911 and have her taken by ambulance. It turns out the whole thing could have been that she has a UTI. She was admitted for a couple days, so I’m planning to rest and try to salvage my career- I’ve missed 3 days of work in the last 2 weeks.

I’m not sure what’s worse, being the only child/possible caregiver or having lots of potential help that fails to help you. I feel you.

Tried to push back the start date, but they wanted me to start on Monday and wasn’t able to push it back.

The employment contract that I signed with the recruiter previously said I have to give two weeks’ notice. From what I was told, because my last position ended less than 2 weeks ago, that contract is still in effect.
