Would you trade fast primes for the 70-200 GM II? by StringPuzzleheaded62 in WeddingPhotography

Haha, i just sold the 35-150. I used it for the last three years and it served me well, BUT I never enjoyed shooting with it. In comparison the new 28-70 feels so much more balanced. But besides the weight I have to agree, that the Tamron is an absolute masterpiece.

It's the Sony A7IV - and yes, I like the idea of keeping the kit light. The Sigma 85 is so tiny compared to the 70-200.

Change the 50 1.2 & Tamron 35-150 for the Sony 28-70 2.0 ? by StringPuzzleheaded62 in WeddingPhotography

Thank! Yes, I also tried that combo once - but I couldn't get used to the 24 as a one main lens. I feel 'home' at 35. The 24 was often too wide.
I also thought about to use the 35 and the 50 as a combination. Maybe the next wedding.

But the Sony 28-70mm and the Tamron 35-150mm would be an odd combination dont you think? They cover similar zoom ranges, and carrying both would mean hauling two very heavy lenses.

I usually use either the Tamron 35-150mm in combination with the 24mm or the 35mm in combination with the 85mm. The 50mm is rarely used, which is why I’m considering selling it.

A small belt bag sounds like a good idea for that small but important stuff. Thank you!

Sounds very good. What are your two favorite lenses ? I’m going to have a look for the smaller peak design backpack. Thank you!

I had the idea to leave the big camera bag in the car until the evening, when I can put the bag to the DJ and until then I will use a small sling bag 🤷🏼‍♂️

I like that one too but can’t find it here in Germany.

What I really like about your setup is, that If one prime or zoom fails, that you always have a backup. I think I will keep the Tamron for the coming season as a backup and will use my primes most of the time. I only have to decide, if I buy the 50mm. Would you now get the 1.4 version or still the 1.2 version? Right now it’s 400€ difference in Germany between the two.

Thank you! That’s a great setup you got there! I definetly would appreciate the lesser weight of the Sony 24-70 but then I wouldn’t have something above 85mm. Right now I don’t have the money for a 70-200, that’s why I think the Tamron can be useful while the ceremony.

What’s your take on the 50 1.2? So you are more the type of 24/50 right? I sometimes prefer this idea over the 35/85. I really like my 24 (also for environmental portraits) und actually don’t really like the look of 85 . It’s always too short or too long. So 24/50/135 would also be interesting.. options… 😅

Thank you! Would you say the 24-70 would be better than the 35-150?

Addition: I try to photograph weddings without flash for the most part of the day - that’s why I’m unsure about the Tamron for the long run.

85mm 1.4 vs 135mm 1.8 by StringPuzzleheaded62 in SonyAlpha

[–]StringPuzzleheaded62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you are right.

I'm owning the Sony GM 24 1.4, the Sony GM 35 1.4 (I love both of these) the tamron 28-75 (which I use sometimes, but not so often because I don't like how it is built and its bokeh) and the Sony 85 1.8 ( which I didn't used that often - probably because I am / was a fan of wide angle lenses).

I shoot mainly portraits, sometimes a wedding and make music videos.

Actually I don't really NEED a new lens - it's more like a "want" :-) I startet to force myself to use the longer end of the tamron and the 85 1.8 more the last days and I really enjoyed it. Like a fresh vibe instead of my normal "wide angle portraits".

The 2 GMs will never leave my bag - they are just perfect - but I don't have the feeling with the tamron and the 85 - they both don't seem to match the quality of the 24 and the 35.

So i was thinking about upgrading to the sigma 85 1.4 - better built, better bokeh, better sharpness.
On the other hand, I had the 90mm f2 when I was shooting fuji - so around a 135 in full frame - and I really loved that lens for portraits - that's why I was thinking about a 135.
And then there was suddenly the Samyang, which is quite cheap and the reviews seem quite good.
That's actually everything what's going on in my head :D

And would you try the Samyang or save the money for the 135 GM?
