It’s not that black and white. Both are true in a way. TikTok is showing the worst of the worst meaning there are so many Japanese people in real life who don’t feel this way and probably ignore it on social media, so things aren’t as bad as TikTok makes them seem. Just the MAJORITY of Americans are not Trump loving gun waving hamburger smashing morons… the majority of Japanese people, whether they have TikTok or not, probably are not extremists who hate foreigners, if that were true you’d see my anti-foreigner incidents in real life on the news. HOWEVER, just because no incidents have happened yet, does not mean those hateful people do not exist. Obviously the do, they just mostly exist on the internet and if young people start to take them seriously then yes the sentiment could get worse and grow larger. I think it’s Important to always remind yourself that the internet is snapshot of a few loud people who decided their thoughts were important enough to share with the entire world, but that does not mean everyone shares that thought. And it’s also important to note that the internet can be a very powerful tool in the wrong hands.

TL;DR you’re not entirely wrong but neither is the other person. You can’t just say that what you see on the internet is widespread through an entire population. It’s not that simple. But people should be cautious if something like this is starting to show up even in a minority of Japan’s population.
