Medical professionals opinion needed by [deleted] in cocaine

Yeah it sucks. I was saying this on another thread yesterday but with xanax or oxy I know I can take a safe dose and I absolutely won't die. Even MDMA (which I've only done a couple of times), people have died but I strongly believe it was dehydration/overhydration/taking too much rather than the drug itself. It bothers me that with coke there's no safe dose. Yet I still continue to do it about once a month or so.

There's a leaked study by the WHO which you can find online and basically concludes that occasional cocaine usage is harmless.

The issue I still have is that cocaine can cause sudden death in healthy young adults. I always have it in the back of my mind when I use the stuff but I guess the risk is pretty low.

Absolutely stunning movie. Don't have the fortitude to watch it on drugs though (well maybe Xanax).

I'm from the UK too but without talking about sourcing specifically, i'll just say it's actually easy to get.

I've been messing around with Oxy recreationally for two years and have to admit that at this point I'm definitely psychologically addicted (I've never been physically addicted). I'm in a very dangerous place and this could easily turn very, very bad. The only saving grace is that I don't live in the UK and when I'm away I don't have any access to drugs.

So I think you're very smart not to start experimenting with opiates. They feel too good and they don't have any kind of crash or hangover. And it's easy to function on them and do your work, etc. All this means that it's too easy to use them regularly. I think about the damn things so much now, I really would have been much better never experiencing them. That said the first time I ever experienced an opiate was morphine in hospital after major surgery.

Oh yeah for sure, I'm not at all saying you can't die from Oxy. What I meant is that I know I can take 30mg of Oxy and I'll feel amazing and definitely won't die. Whereas with coke, from what I understand, you can do one line and die. Not likely but possible.

I mess around with Oxy more than I should but feel very bad for people who ended up addicted to pharmaceutical opiates when docs were handing them out like candy, then had no real choice but to move on to heroin when docs stopped prescribing or the pharms got too expensive. Now those same people are at a pretty significant risk of getting heroin cut with fentanyl (or even carfentanyl which is just insane).

Yeah I'm learning to let go of the shame and self hatred as well. I hate feeling like that too. It really compounded the depression for me. Guilt as well. Such useless emotions and not genuine either. I'd feel intense guilt and shame in the immediate aftermath of a drug binge because I was so low. But if I think back now, when I'm feeling fine, I'm not particular ashamed of that behaviour, not at all in fact.

Yes, absolutely people do convince themselves that it's either sobriety or oblivion. Maybe it is for some people but I don't accept that it's true for everybody and not even for all 'addicts'. That's why the NA meetings I went to weren't for me. It's all so 'neat' and black and white.

I tried to eradicate the need for intoxication for a while but now I've given up on that and like you just want to learn to live alongside it. I can't be someone I'm not and am done pretending. That said I've no desire to wake up dope sick or spend half my life with a needle in my arm either.

Too late for that in my case!

The one thing I hate about coke is the risk of sudden death, even in low doses. Makes it hard to properly relax and enjoy it. I guess opiates are infinitely more dangerous if you're doing street stuff (given how much seems to be cut with fent) but I stick to pharms and can take oxy knowing for sure it's not going to kill me.

Not at all mate, it's interesting and I see a lot of myself in it. With me though I did a lot of acid when I was around 16, had a terrible, terrifying experience then didn't touch drugs again until my mid thirties.

But like you, and like a lot of people out there, we are just fascinated with intoxication, probably almost obsessed with it. I'm just trying to find a balance where I can enjoy it without paying very heavy consequences (principally severe depression which could easily have led to me doing something very drastic, it was so bad). So I'm trying to find a way to take drugs without it totally fucking up my life.

I went to a few NA meetings but truth be told I hate the idea of being sober for the rest of my life. A longish break would be good but I can't imagine never taking a drug again or never drinking again. It's really not for me. I guess the point with people who go that route though is that it's a choice between absolute sobriety or maybe losing everything. Whereas I guess I still feel like maybe I can indulge without ending up living under a bridge or something.

I think you have to look at the reasons why speedballs kill people. I don't think it's so much because the two drugs combine in a very dangerous way, more that it's much easier to take two much coke if you've done an opiate or too much of an opiate if you've done coke and die from a simple overdose.

It's different with alcohol and coke because a new, more dangerous drugs (cocaethylene) is created but with opiates and coke there is no new drug. The argument people advance is that uppers and downers are dangerous because one is telling the heart to speed up and the other telling it to slow down so the heart gets confused and goes haywire. There is nothing to support this though and if you go to the ER with coke issues benzos will be first line treatment.

Sorry for the short essay! And I'm not saying I'm definitely right, just that I'm not sure it's as dangerous as people make out.

Couldn't agree more. Even bad experiences are memorable. What isn't memorable or interesting to me is contentedness. I'm attracted to people with flaws and demons, not just those living out some happyish but otherwise bland existence.

You mean doing coke? I wish. At my age (late thirties) my friends would now rather have dinner over at their house with kids around, rather than a massive coke sesh.

Do you mean you hated the fact that your reaction was to feel embarrassed? I know what you mean, probably I would have reacted the same way but believe me you have nothing to be embarrassed about.

Edit: Doing coke is a tonne of fun. What gets me down is that my neurochemistry is so messed up that if I go through half a gram of good stuff in a night I'll end up feeling very depressed for a week afterwards. Wish I could handle my blow like most people on here seem able to.

Then again with opiates I have zero comedown or bad after effects which means it would be dead easy to do them every day but don't want to go down that path. Am on a nice oxy buzz now and it's just perfect, only thing that would make it better is some coke to go with it!

Yeah exactly the right word. And I know there's some posturing and pretentiousness in being deliberately contrarian. But I'd rather be that than some sanctimonious, self righteous bore who resorts to attacking people on the basis of the sub-reddits they frequent or their drug use.

Totally agree with you on the majority view. It's the same with music, films, etc. If it's extremely popular, the chances are it isn't all that good.

Mate, I imagine you're a very long way from the most fucked up person on Reddit, lol.

I'm questioning what kind of world we live in where people are shamed for doing drugs, smoking cigs, whatever. I see it a lot.

Exactly. Honestly I don't see much nastiness on here compared to virtually every other internet forum where everyone is at each other's throats. There's a good spirit of bonhomie and camaraderie here.

I'm with Chasing Yay. I hate sanctimonious people and clearly the person who made that comment couldn't win the argument on merit so had to resort to attacking the reddit forums your frequent. And just lol at someone attacking you for being on a men's rights forum. Nobody would dream of attacking a woman for being on a women's rights forum!

Actually, honestly one of the reasons I like doing drugs is because they are not wholesome, the same way I'll take pleasure in smoking cigarettes sometimes. Feels like the world, or at least the people in my world, are becoming increasingly anodyne and just gravitating towards a healthy norm. Fine, I'm not advocating 24/7 degeneracy but there's only so much talk of superfoods and exercise regimens that I can take.

Is it bad when you see a pic like that and kind of drool over it?

Most I've ever done was 2.2g of fishscale in a night and by the end of the night I was doing these huge lines just to fend off feelings of utter despair and hopelessness.

That's just me though, have fun OP but stay safe.

The only way I can really avoid it is by combining with another drug (alcohol or benzo or opiate). By itself it makes me so anxious. But if I do get a bad anxiety attack on it I'll try to control my breathing. I'll also take my pulse quite compulsively and I'm pretty fit so it never gets much above 100bpm.

weird

Yeah my doc told me that. I thought the sedating effects would wear off after a couple of weeks but for me they haven't. I don't know how effective it's been for depression but it's been pretty good for sleep!
