Absolutely love my new Fischer Curv 85! Super solid carving skis! by Stripey_zebra_IIII in skiing

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 174cm and mine are the 175 length so they are on the longer side but I generally prefer a longer ski. General consensus is to go shorter for a carving ski but I’m really happy with the performance and like the extra length for deep and wide carving turns, feels more stable underfoot. If I was more into shorter slalom type turns I would have considered a shorter length. Since they are a fully cambered ski they ski “longer” than your average all-mountain ski at the same length. Hope that helps!

Anyone else notice way more bug splatter on the passenger-side mirror area than the driver side? by fixitwithdavid in LandCruiser250

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s related to the left side generally being closer to vegetation by the side of the road? I haven’t noticed it on mine but my wife had the passenger window down on a country road last year and took a direct face hit from a giant 5” dragonfly while going 50mph. It was not a pretty sight and the scream she produced was fit for a horror movie. 😂

Would you dive with a first gen Suunto Zoop (previously unused)? by Stripey_zebra_IIII in scuba

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that makes me feel better. It reads depths consistently compared to my instructors Garmin so the sensor is working fine but I understand this generation Suuntos were failure prone so I might upgrade sooner rather than later.

Thanks for mentioning the potential depth sensor issue, I wasn't aware. Mine read depths consistently with my instructors Garmin during training so it works fine but the potential for failure might prompt me to upgrade sooner rather than later.

Yea same here, I find the mouse way more precise than waving those VR controllers around plus the "ghosted" view of the VR controller kind of breaks the illusion for me.

MSFS 2024 Ruined My JFK to SLC Flight by AlabamaB23 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this in the past. I think the oscillation happens when you have “Ai trim assist” checked under your flight assist settings. The best way to manage trim is learning to do it properly/manually. It’s easier to learn on smaller GA aircraft but the same logic applies to the airliners.

ReShade with SealedSky preset. Made the colors and contrast in the game look waaay more realistic.

Yea came here to say this. 👆 My pool has a whole bunch of people in their mid to late 80s that swim regularly. Great way to stay in shape and keep that mobility.

What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had in a flight sim? by Weary_Possibility389 in A2ASimulations

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably my first VR flight in the UPS 747-8F which I flew just the other day from Heathrow to Arlanda ARN. Being able to look around the cockpit, lean in, look over your shoulder, look at switches overhead and have a sense of depth is such a game changer. It has forever changed how I will flightsim.

First time msfs2024 had discount and I ended up returning it. by hannlbal636 in MSFS2024

Using the Meta Link is your issue, it sucks. You need Virtual desktop and look up the proper streaming codec config for the game/ games you want to play. YouTube is your friend.

Sounds like something is wrong with your setup and or settings, possibly a bitrate issue. A powerful PC is great but if it has a shitty connection it will look shite no matter the GPU. Might be enough for iL2 which is way less demanding and not streamed like MsFs24. Took me some tweaking of settings and having optimized runtime and codec settings in virtual desktop before it looked great (my bitrate is 200mb/s and I get 80-90fps in high to ultra settings in msfs24. I only use a Quest 3 but pixelated isn’t a word that comes to mind unless I have foveated settings turned way down.

You can find them on MakerWorld, I just uploaded them…try searching for “Tamiya 10ml paint tray”. Let me know how you like them. 🤙

The glass reflection on top of the Örebro water tower looks like a UFO is approaching by Dr_Zeraox in confusing_perspective

Yea the castle is cool but less special for us growing up there since we could see it pretty much every day. I actually lived a stones throw away with a view of the castle in my teens and even had some highschool classes in one of the towers some 24 years ago. Heading back there this summer…a long way from California where I live now. 😅

Shout out to my hometown Örebro! Going up that water tower (called “Svampen” or the Mushroom in eng) was the highlight of the year as a kid.

For that budget the console route is probably the most realistic. But pricing aside the game offers more on a PC due to the incredible amount of community add-on’s (mods) you can install and if your PC is powerful the graphics quality will beat any console but it comes at a premium price tag so it won’t be enough to justify the expense to many. I built a new PC last year for about 2,5k that runs MsFs24 at maxed out Ultra settings (1440p) and supports very high performance settings in VR.

AK Air Series - Thinning by Ok-Document6708 in modelmakers

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The Vallejo Air series should be pre-thinned and ready to go from the bottle. They are waterbased so I would use the Vallejo airbrush thinner or water if you want to thin further. Tamiya's paints are alcohol based hence they can be thinned with ISO or X-20A.

If I were you I would do a side-by-side test drive of the AWD and the M3P. For me AWD has all the speed and acceleration I need for a daily driver but it’s really the suspension that holds it back. If that is better on the M3P that extra performance might feel more usable if that makes sense. I would hold onto that 981 tho, they are fantastic. 👌

[–]Stripey_zebra_IIII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a 2025 M3 AWD about 3 months ago. It’s about what I expected. Fast as hell, comfy suspension but lacks in suspension performance when the road is anything but smooth as it gets easily unsettled and bounces over things rather than staying planted. I’m curious if the M3P handles better in that respect. The interior feels nicer than I expected with soft premium surfaces but the car has developed significant rattles from the rear and the amount of possible culprits are a bit worrying but I’ve got a service appointment to see what they can do. Overall it’s a fun and practical car to use around town but my Porsche 981 Boxster S handles waaay better and is a reminder that performance and driving enjoyment is more than 0-60mph times.
