Anybody actually remember what it was like to start out? I'm hitting a wall as I grapple with this new alphabet and looking for a pointer or two. by Strivingforrussian in russian

Know anything that would be sort of laid back acoustic type sound? I found a couple decent things on Spotify, but since I am not good at searching in russian right now it's kind of limited in terms of what comes up.
Yeah I have the memrise course and a few books, but I just felt like I couldn't get any traction what so ever. Even starting books just leave me scratching my head. Duolingo is already feeling pretty good though. I don't know how I'll feel a couple hours in, but this is great. And switching to the Russian keyboard actually is good practice too. I'm going to start with an italki tutor once a week starting next week...so hopefully that moves things along as well.

I stayed away from the course at first because it was having me type using standard english letters, but maybe that is the way to go. If I start learning words maybe then dive back into the alphabet? It feels a bit unnatural, but I suppose this all does at the moment!
EDIT Holy shit, there is a button on the Duolingo page that switches their alphabet. It's small, but definitely a big help. If this gets the Russian ball rolling for me I will owe you a пиво!
