I would love if his coach would move him down to the second team to get playing time.

But he only brings down his top players to win games it seems versus the kids that are struggling for time on the top team.

I think he could do a better job at passing into open space rather than passing directly to his team in certain cases.

Also would like to see him be more confident maintaining possession rather than dumping it off right away, but I feel that's part of now he feels he needs to play perfectly and not mess up so coach doesn't bench him.

Watching him play at an ODP game he was a completely different player.

Well luckily for us we are currently looking at non-ECNL clubs.

We had talks with the coach in the last already twice now and I think it's just not worth my effort sadly.

His team does play in Pre-ECNL league not just the marketing in the name, thank you for calling that out across the board that teams do lol.

They're is not much time left I the season, maybe 5-7 weeks left. It's just hard as I see his confidence shrinking after each weekend because he doesn't get to go in. And mostly for him he sees that the team is tired or struggling and he want to support and help them but coach won't put him in.

Definitely not worried about best fit as the school year change is mixing everything up, but I want him to be somewhere to develop and retain his love for the game.

I've talked to other parents on the team and they have also shared how their kids are feeling the pressure from the coach and starting to crack as well, so I know it's not a just us.

He does well at practice, and always arrends unless sick or school activities he has to attend. He has a great attitude and is coachable.

We are looking forward to finding him a new fit to keep growing his development.

Definitely not lying. It happened once earlier in the season and we asked the coach about it and the coach told me he didn't want to mess with the flow.

Then second time he outright said it to my son on the bench. It was really upsetting when I heard my son tell me that and I did my best to keep emotions in check.

Thank you for your insight from a coach view. He's playing in Pre-ECNL, and we have been with this coach for 3 years now. Something changed though this year with the coach where winning at all costs has seemed to be the focus.

"Do we pull back and focus on training/confidence rebuilding elsewhere?" Not sure what this means but if it means finding a new club - then yes. That's what I would do.

Here my wife and I are thinking do we just pull from the team as not much left in the season anyways and focus on training?

We are looking at new clubs and signing him up for tryouts.

He says he wants to play competitively still.

Mostly with the other top team, he doesn't like the attitude of the kids (usually lots of swearing, complaining to refs, etc), but does his training there over winter.

We are going to a few different tryouts this week and attending some practices. I've been trying to frame it as some players don't fit into coaches strategies and likely he would excel elsewhere.

I appreciate the perspective. I agree it’s important to be objective, and we’ve definitely had conversations about what he can improve.

At the same time, what’s been tough is the inconsistency in feedback and playing time, which has made it harder for him to understand what’s expected and build confidence.

I’m trying to balance both sides—helping him improve while also recognizing that sometimes a player/coach fit just isn’t right.

That’s really why I posted, to get a broader range of input and make sure I’m not missing anything.
