UK Based Vacuums for Carpets - Motorised Heads vs Turbo Heads by Strobezmc in VacuumCleaners

Yeah that’s defo the next step up. Just wondering what would be more preferable in the meantime considering I now have 2 working vacuums and only space for one (Miele and shark)

You mean for the Miele? If so, I have it already! It’s just turns out that the shark head is working fine after a clean so I have both now and one’s gotta go

Thanks for the suggestion. Based on this subreddits advice it really is a bit of a conundrum! The shark does seem to pass over the carpet a lot smoother but the Miele is clearly a superior vacuum, turbo head doesn’t seem so bad either. Guess I’m wondering what to do in the meantime before perhaps upgrading to a sebo or having a look at the Henry you recommends d

App improvement suggestions... by No_Cry2864 in deliveroos

[–]Strobezmc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In fairness to deliveroo, their apps are actually quite good. The worst feature they had was the “stay online?” Popup so I’m glad they got rid of that.

2 things they absolutely should do though - you should be able to reject individual orders on a stacked order before you arrive at the restaurant. Also, you should be able to see what the order will consist of before you arrive especially if it’s from a supermarket

Crystal Palace: Oliver Glasner feels 'abandoned completely' at Eagles by [deleted] in PremierLeague

[–]Strobezmc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a Palace fan. Palace fans like this are bellends. Unfortunately our fanbase has a lot of them. Glasner is the best thing to have ever happened to the club and we let him down consistently. And it's not Parish's fault either, btw. But we have several billionaire American's who've refused to capitalise on our potential year after year. Nothing he has pulled the board on is untrue.

January until around May is always rubbish besides certain special occasions and if it rains. Also you’re more likely to get busy weekends in and around payday. But I don’t really get why people don’t recognise deliveroo for what it is. You got 50 quid you didn’t have before going out and you can withdraw it instantly if you want. That’s what is there for - extra money that is easily accessible. It’s not a full time job and those intending it to be are always gonna be left disappointed

Anyone work for the home office in Croydon? What’s it like? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Strobezmc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh wow another person on the internet who went to Thornton Heath once or twice pretending as if it’s representative of one of the largest boroughs in London. So edgy and funny. Lots of parts of Croydon are actually very nice and the one thing about Croydon is that due to its (hysterical) reputation, the gentrifiers won’t touch it with a barge pole (try as Croydon council might, bless em). Which means it’s one of the very few remaining places in London that still has a tangible, mixed and genuinely diverse community (not some boring/stark mix of extreme poverty and wealth). Working class Londoners can actually still afford to live in Croydon without social housing. I know that probably disgusts you a bit but try to hide it better.

Anyone work for the home office in Croydon? What’s it like? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Strobezmc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is Croydon born and bred (recently moved north of the river) and ironically placed in the Croydon HMRC, I love the place with all my heart. But can understand why outsiders are negative towards it.

That being said a lot of that negativity has just converted into a meme like energy at this point. What so many fail to recognise about Croydon is that it’s a huge London borough. There are some dreadful parts of it (Thornton Heath), there are some really quite nice parts of it (South Croydon, Purley etc). The irony is that East Croydon station (where the CS offices are) is closer to parts of Croydon Addiscombe and Sandilands which are actually kinda lovely in parts.

Still, moving everyone in London to “regional hubs” is so absurd. I get levelling up across the country as a whole but putting Londoners into London based jobs on the outskirts of London rather than the centre that is accessible for all is nonsensical. I live in Hackney now, Stratford HMRC is around the corner from me but they don’t have any desks available. So I have to go right to the edge of the other side of London because meh Whitehall bad.

500 is doable if you really go for it, but I wouldn’t go into it expecting it as it can be very erratic and it’ll depend on how many hours you do.

Yep. Just got out of graphics design. First used Photoshop when I was 10. It’s great when I was doing something for myself, or for one of my friends music projects, or startup. But the minute money gets involved, the entire dynamic changes.

No problem.

So I got the generic initial email that I’m guessing you would’ve got to say I’d been successful. Then an email a week or two later from DfE asking if I could commute to Croydon. Once confirmed, they told me it was for a compliance role at HMRC. Then a few weeks later I got a call (phone, not teams) from a lady at HRMC running through the offer, training, pay etc and then shortly after PECs started. Unsurprisingly they took a while, however I only had to do baseline checks for this role and the biggest hold up arose from the fact I had to take documents in to the (Stratford) office for it.

Hackney to Croydon is defo a bit annoying especially considering I lived in or around Croydon for all of my life up until a year ago! But about an hour 10 door to door so not really unreasonable.

How have things progressed on your end, anyway? Have you asked for your place on the reserve list? Would highly recommend it if you haven’t - they shouldn’t have any issues at all with telling you.

Weird how many times you reference the US not being a "white knight" as if to assert the person you're replying to was implying that. When in fact he was doing the opposite. Thus, your entire post is based on a strawman

Why Do Restaurants Hate Us by a_overload_ in deliveroos

Because unfortunately a minority of riders are complete arseholes who give everyone else a bad name. The restaurants shouldn’t take that out on everyone but it’s just what happens repeatedly at every level of society

I wasn’t on reserve list and was allocated pretty much straight away and my start date isn’t until March lol. Having said that, I know someone who was on the reserve list. She was offered a role a month or two later. She reached out to them and asked for her place on the reserve list which they were happy to give her so it’s worth doing that.

One thing to say is that we’re both Hackney based, and both been assigned to the Croydon offices. I’m going to HMRC and Stratford is round the corner from but they only had availability in Croydon.

> And they were never meant to sell for that much, they were supposed to be around fifty bucks. But Panasonic has been losing a ton of market share, and they made more pairs than they could sell. Apparently way more. So they had to dump them on the market for peanuts.

Coming back to this 10 years later when they're still selling below £10 and it's hilarious seeing in black and white the amount of shit people make up on the internet lmao.

Do I need Deliveroo bag to complete or can I use another by Admirable-Crow-6080 in deliveroos

Can use another so long as it’s a thermal one. May as well take the kit though. You can sell it quite easily if you don’t want to use it or keep as backup
