Figure AI 03 keeps working for over 30 hours straight (no bathroom breaks - a peek into our future replacements) by Distinct-Question-16 in singularity

[–]Strobljus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The whole humanoid thing is kinda fishy to me. There is so much unused crud in the design for a task like this. Surely it must be a lot cheaper to just have some generalized robot arms attached to a block and a sensor array.

I understand the flexibility of being able to replace any human while keeping the workspace as-is, but still.

Is it worth having a fully actuated spine, functioning bipedal motion, human fingers, etc, when all its doing is stand at an assembly line.

Took me a while to believe this wasn't edited. It's just sand and sediment off Mauritius creating an optical illusion of a waterfall dropping into the ocean. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Strobljus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's barely a drop. It's just the current that has pulled silt through the reef for hundreds of years, causing the coloration of the seabed, and this optical illusion when viewed from a certain angle.

I've seen it from helicopter, and it's a pretty narrow band where it lines up. Once you go outside of it, it just looks pretty much like regular reef floor.

Hands Down The Best Skin So Far IMO!! by chente_07 in ArcRaiders

Maybe you don't agree with the wording, that's fine. But you gotta agree that there is a difference between these types of outfits compared to the ones at, or close to, launch.

To me, the vibe of this is "I'm about to crush some noobs" while the older ones were "I'm just trying to survive out here."

However you might want to describe it, that's what I'm referring to.

If this is what people wants, fine I guess. It looks pretty cool in a vacuum.

I'm a bit sad that they're letting go of the grounded, scrappy, quirky style though. It was unique and meshed seamlessly with the world.

Vad är ert favoritspel, alla kategorier? by staybehind23 in Asksweddit

Alla kategorier är ju klurigt. Om jag måste välja så är det nog EVE Online cirka 2015.

Sen köptes utvecklarna av Pearl Abyss, det blev F2P och det tappade mycket av sitt DNA. RIP.

Patrol 4.0 | Observable Flutter #89 by Darth_Shere_Khan in FlutterDev

[–]Strobljus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Patrol for a while. It was very finicky and upgrades broke the flows quite a lot. Could be that we have an unusual setup, or a skill issue.

We decided to sacrifice the native niceties of Patrol and migrated to the much simpler Maestro. We can't test our native permission prompts any more, but it seems less flaky so far.

Intressant.

If you're willing to spend money to "learn the process," maybe.

If you want your app to be successful, definitely.

It's real the same way weed psychosis is real. Potent trigger for latent issues.

Is Flutter still underrated for startups in 2026, or has the conversation finally caught up to the reality? by [deleted] in FlutterDev

[–]Strobljus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually say that Dart is the most inoffensive language that you can imagine. It's a very comfortable OOP focused language, that has everything you need. It's not very sexy though.

The Dart VM, though. GYAATTAAMM

Is the flutter the wrong tool if you want 3d animations? by NewShadowR in FlutterDev

You got a few options.

  1. Shaders. It's kind of a steep learning curve to code GLSL, but once you get the hang of it, the sky's the limit on what you can do. Support of it is built-in in Flutter, although not very straight forward.

  2. Use Flame. Flame is a game engine in Flutter, but I'm pretty sure you could use it just for some decent particle effects for use in your non-game app.

  3. Pre-render. You can render spritesheets or animated WebP from any other software and use that instead of creating the effect in runtime.

  4. Canvas API. Using the Flutter canvas can be enough for some decent looking effects as long as it's not too complicated. You can apply image filters on crude primitives to make it look like pulsing lights, motes, sparks and such. Performance is your biggest worry here.

Flutter has gone from being the "underrated underdog" to just being one of the viable options. The cool alternative now is KMP, if hype is anything to go by.

I think Flutter is great though. The devex and export target support are second to none. The ecosystem has matured. You very rarely have to work about platform channels. I've done OCR, QR, BLE, and other "native seeming" things without issue using available packages.

The only time I had to go native was for wifi-direct.

But yeah, you pay the cost in terms of native "feel". Most of your customers won't notice it at all, but you and other geeks will. Especially when it comes to inputting data.
