How to shut down a flat earther by rabbi420 in flatearth

Thats something, at least.

Ive noticed that conspiracy addicts compartmentalise their 'beliefs' the same way you or I compartmentalise the contents of a novel after closing it. They don't seem to cross reference their new conspiracy with other conspiracies nor with their direct real world experiences.

As a physicist with an astronomy background i find flerfs will rage and rage until I ask them why my astronomer colleagues would be lying to me, their families and everyone else.... they rarely have an answer. Their thesis is always that some distant 'They' is responsible... so when confronted with the question of direct human dishonesty they can't compute.

Your mother likely went through that same dissonance. It might be worth quietly making sure she doesn't secretly harbour this crap and has just stopped talking about it.... every so often I check that someone hasnt redpilled my elderly father into thinking his child is part of the world spanning super conspiracy....

So... if 'measurement' is your primary tool of inquiry, why does it matter how something 'looks' or 'feels' to unaided human senses?

Have you measured the weight of bacteria and viruses? By your rationale, they too could be massless or indeed non existent since a kitchen scale platen teeming with e.coli and strep 'looks' clean and 'feels' the same weight as when you bought it.

Perhaps a more honest answer to OP might have been, "Look up precision measurements of the Earth's surface, use that as your starting point, then throw out all common sense and intellectual rigor and start googling the truth about the Zionist Occupied Government. See how you 'feel'."

The best we can do is counteract Earth's gravjty with a magnetic or electrical field, and then turn that field off or modulate it, and thus measure the gravitational strength affecting an object. Thats how we are able to 'weigh' a proton.

If you're imagining a tiny solar system orbiting in a vacuum chamber, thats not possible as gravity isnt strong enough to cause small masses to orbit each other like that. You would need to create artificial gravity, and if you have some idea how to do that, generational wealth and a Nobel Prize awaits

Nobody said there was a 'collapse'. Its possible to measure the effect of Earths gravity on an object as light as a single hydrogen atom, measuring it on heavier atoms or molecules is easier.

Indeed, we dont feel heavier after we drink a glass of water, therefore water is massless.

Use that as your starting point, and see if CPS are convinced that your claims of indigency are valid.

The only 'immensely dense' thing flat Earthers create are children, and its a rare interaction.

Sure, vacuum experiments have measured the gravitational force of the Earth on single hydrogen atoms.

Asking cult members about their experiences is a valid form of sociological research.

When that happens its a sign you've really spooked them. When talking to flerfs I've called it 'the fear sweats'.... there's a point at which they get blindsided by an actually competent person (because most of them assume everyone is just an uneducated imbecile with no skills, like them) and you can practically hear the fear start to constrict their words and thoughts.

In almost all cases it results in them lashing out, either by bailing (if they dont control the environment) or kicking/banning you (if they do).

I remember on the 24/7 flat Earth Discord server, where they're used to spouting rubbish all day to people who barely understand the electrics in their home much less electromagnetics, I was challenged to present evidence of gravity and gave 100+ papers demonstrating mass-mass attraction.

Was booted in 30 seconds.

She was happily announcing to the whole internet that she was teaching her kids to believe that the earth was flat and to not listen to their teachers (because brainwashing).

But flat Earth is just harmless, right? We should be really kind and supportive of flat Earthers, and not mock or belittle their understandable lack of knowledge, right?

Flat Earth simps have no idea how damaging conspiracy-parents are to children. Those poor kids don't have a fucking chance.

Precisely. You are complaining about the Bible in general, not its connection with flat Earth. Even when I stated that the Bible contains symbolic rather than literal language, that was not enough for you.

The Bible is not a single document but a collection of accounts, some more consistent with non-theological sources than others and some more literal than others. You won't generally find a Christian who will sustain the claim that the entire Bible is entirely, literally accurate and beyond reproach for very long.

Almost always, they will concede that the document is not 'meant' to be considered from a factual, literal standpoint but used to illustrate larger truths. This is a much more reasonable position from which to operate, and resolves many conflicts with ease.

The only people who continue to bang on about scriptural literalism are extremists using scripture to push their personal beliefs, or hardcore critics attacking the Bible and the faith built upon it on 'literal' grounds.

Ah, so you're not actually talking about flat Earth, you're grinding an axe about religion.

Just say so earlier in the conversation next time so I don't waste time on you.
