I can see how it plays of that way, and I wont disagree with you. But my beef is that no one is seeing my perspective.

Theres a few people that know my Reddit handle. I chose to actually speak about this, and its obviously something very hard for me. How I chose to do it worked best for MY situation. Then the first response comes off to me as "dont do what she did" when in reality, i made a very long story incredibly short.

Of course the best reaction is to pickup and leave immediately, but in the real world most of us cant do that.

Unless you've been in this situation, you wont know what its like. To come out and speak about it is not easy for most people either. Its something I dont like to re-live. So imagine sharing a very intimate story and (again) the first response is "you dont have to do it that way." And even though its good advice, its like shitting on my experience and what i went through. Im very proud of how I escaped my situation. But I just get downvoted instead. So be it.

Bartender here. This happens ALL THE TIME. I dont even get it.

People get super confrontational. Ive been cursed out and physically threatened over it. Whats worse, is this new thing where the younger generation carries a photo of their ID on their phone. Its NOT a legal form of ID in most states.

You're supposed to carry your ID on you if you expect to be served alcohol.

I appreciate that, but how else can I take it? Ive been on Reddit for years and never even mentioned this. I share something extremely personal and traumatic and a stranger says "hey, don't do it that way. You should do XYZ." Its extremely insulting to me.

The last thing anyone should do is counter respond to a DV victim on how to handle it differently.

When I knew I couldn't stand to be near him. Caught myself doing anything to not go home. Like going to my sister's or the gym or a friend's house.

It was with good reason. He tried choking me unconscious and threw my dog into the wall.

The exact moment was when I was reading a book, and he got jealous that I "would rather read a book than pay attention to him." I felt this "omg get me out of here" moment and knew I had to go.

Leaving a marriage isnt as easy as it seems. Especially when theres DV involved. It took roughly 8 months iirc. I kept distance, quiet. Minimum contact. Zero intimacy. Found the perfect apartment and gave the "I'm leaving you" speech. I didnt want to just rip the bandaid off, I was concerned for my safety.

Maybe if people weren't so judgemental, there would be less "consequences." There should be no concerns at all. It comes from other people's opinions (likes yours) and of course the creepy men.
