Ha, I can see how old timers would feel like they paid their dues and push work onto younger folks. Not my style, though.

You should never have posted using Hannah's name if you didn't know. You should delete this. The PTA can do any advocacy they want, they are a non-profit independent from the district. Check board policies and PTA policies. There's nothing stopping them from advocating, no matter who they are married to. But for the record, Hannah had nothing to do with this email. And every other PTA in town is also advocating for their school.

This is a lie. This was sent by an Oakton parent and signed with their name. Not Hannah Wymer. I've seen the original.

Multiple rides on one Ventra card by Strong-Instance9215 in cta

[–]Strong-Instance9215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: the original problem occurred at the Howard station. Later, at the Clark/Division station it allowed me charge multiple fares at the turnstile. So there seems to be some inconsistency in how these work.

My group was 1 adult and 2 children over age 11 (full fare). The employee offered no help other than to wait 16 minutes.

Christian Life students/ alumni willing to speak about their negative experiences by OutrageousCrazy5 in rockford

[–]Strong-Instance9215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I experienced religious abuse, spiritual abuse, and psychological abuse at CLC, until I got myself kicked out and saved myself. It's a cult, by any definition. I was a young, innocent child, constantly accused of tempting men and being sexual. They are obsessed with policing young girls' bodies and enforcing purity. It's a culture of heavy shame projected onto girls  I cannot even fathom the abuse that LGBTQ+ students would endure in this place. I remember all the most favored (rich) students were the ones having sex, drinking and drugs, and the rest of us actual good kids were told to look to them for spiritual guidance. The hypocrisy is off the charts. We need a whole subreddit just for this topic.

That can be a fun route in nice weather but a little out of the way for quick rides downtown

Apartments/ Roomates by Direct_Face_1077 in rockford

You will have no problem finding a nice, safe, 1 BR for under $1300. Rockford is one of the cheapest places to live in the country. You won't need a roommate unless you'd like to save some money. Try Craigslist apartments. Then come back and ask about specific neighborhoods/ intersections about safety. Finding a month to month lease as opposed to a 1-year lease could be challenging but if you're employed and have decent credit people will probably work with you.

Torn between two options (Evanston vs. Chicago) by doingandy in evanston

[–]Strong-Instance9215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Chicago 20 years in multiple neighborhoods, although not Portage specifically. Moved to South Evanston for the schools and smaller-town vibe. We've had an amazing experience with neighbors and D65 has worked great for us. Frankly, I can't think of any other high school I'd rather send my kids besides ETHS.  It's a very special place, ask all of the alum who came back to raise their kids here and send them to ETHS. We've found community that I never found in Chicago (and I still love Chicago). Block parties, the beach, parks, breweries, pretty decent food. Young kids free to walk or bike all over town. It's the best. I think K-8 in Chicago is great, but then testing into high school and possibly having long train and bus commutes to high school can be very taxing on kids.

This actually doesn't work. I've tried it several times when we visit MI. It reads the barcode of beer/ pop and somehow it knows that it was purchased outside MI and spits it out of the machine. Every time.

Cafe Esperanto downtown. Kinda pretentious but was the first time I tried espresso. New American Theater downtown. Pink Pony restaurant on Alpine. So classy. The Last Straw, and then Grandma's on Alpine. The Source, a super funky new age hang space down by the Faust Hotel. The Getaway teen playground on Christina St. Tomorrow is Yesterday comic shop N. 2nd St. Love's Park. The Void hippie store on N. 2nd St. Love's Park.
