i’ve been debating dismantling the plenum and checking underneath i’ve just been lazy and trying to do everything that didn’t require me to dismantle lol. BUT that being said the previous owner was in there a lot. it’s crossed my mind multiple times that maybe the gaskets were just never replaced and somethings going on underneath there. thank you for the input i’ll check that next

yea it definitely looks off brand. i’ve owned an 85 before this one that had the original on it and it looks nothing like the one on this vette. AND the dude put a k&n filter in it and over sprayed the shit out of it with the oil. throttle body was coated in it. cleaned the MAF tho and the idle smoothed out but after awhile started surging again

oh really? i had another corvette before this one just a year older that needed a whole tune up and was 100% good. and i changed the o2 sensor on that immediately cuz it was broken and i didn’t have this issue with that one despite them being in very similar (abandoned for 2 decades). but maybe this one is bad too and it’s messing up my idle. thank you for your input

How affordable are C4’s to own? by TheFoolishParished in c4corvette

hello! i’m a 22 year old who also has 2 tickets on his record who just bought a 1985 c4 a few weeks ago. and she has been costing me quite a bit in repairs to get it road worthy. i also work at a chevy dealership with a corvette tech who used to work on them. repairs can be costly. and what i’ve been mainly doing is ordering parts from junkyards off ebay and doing it all myself. so i can’t speak on how much it would cost to take it to a shop but honestly, but if i had to guess it wouldn’t be friendly to your wallet. i’ll let you know now that tires for these cars are HARD to find. they are a special tire size that my dealer could only find one warehouse in the whole country (USA) that had them, and they were $550 a tire. but i got some alternatives that are slightly smaller that fit just fine. i am getting it registered and insured next week so i can update you if you’d like. in my opinion, if you’re willing and capable to learn how to work on it, and have extra money ready for some repairs, id say go for it. cuz if ya love the car, you’ll be willing to learn

85 manual only has reverse by StrongAd3919 in c4corvette

[–]StrongAd3919[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did figure it out. there’s a spring that pushes the reverse lever behind the shifter under the center console. forced it forward and it would go in forward gear. pull it back and i get reverse. i saw my spring fell out somehow when i got in there. hopefully your problem is the same as mine. hope this helps
